Tractors are great for many things, like farming... Land clearing, not so great. It can be done but it would take lots of time. Do you have lots of time on your hands? Are you thinking of just mowing down the 1" to 2" stuff? or digging them out? A Big Mulcher would make short work of it.

More thoughts... How tall is the grass you are mowing? I use a 6 foot finishing mower with my L2800 and can cut 7-8" down to 2.5 inches with no problem. That's just grass... not woody plants. I bought cheap (low HP) tractor but added grapple, hydraulic top and tilt, the pricier Stabilizer...

I have not used a one man auger but I have man-handled mounting a PTO auger to the 3 point hitch... and it's not an easy job. It's one of my least favorite implement to hook up...

Is your cable breaking? Where? tractor side or the lever side? You should have the correct pto lever with the L3800... earlier versions of the L3400 were too short and would bend / kink / break the cable. Once I replace the pto lever to the longer version, I have not had any more problems...

If it cuts straight, I'd just run it after applying a few strokes, sooner or later it will sharpen to a point!
