It is. Everything was still securely in place and no obvious issues, but decided was that far in might as well.

Did not find anything loose or out of place. Wiggling wires made no difference to tachometer working or not. When first cranked stayed at zero. After minute or two it started working. This more like what it has normally done for a while. Looked for nearby ground and found one and brushed it, but...

Was able to take side panels off and get to back of gauge cluster today.

Had to do some quick loader work this evening. Unexpectedly looked down and tachometer was working again. I assumed this last time it had quit for good.

Will look over and see if can find those locations and check them out. I actually have an electronic copy. Appreciate the attachment shared.

Where would the ground connection be that needs to be checked? Spoke to local dealer shop this afternoon and they too recommended making sure had no fuses blown and good ground. If both of those check out then most likely is bad sensor. Believe he said they were around $40.

After few hours of use light started coming on again. Wound up taking back to repair shop. They determined new regulator failed. Replaced under warranty and back going again. Time will tell if this one lasts.

Gave that a try. No luck. Was a little oil on bottom. Just out of curiosity stuck sensor to metallic object and was still magnetized. Could it be as simple as replacing the sensor?

Was able to locate the engine speed sensor today. Disconnected and reconnected. Did not help. Is there a specific test to be able to determine if the sensor is bad

I am just starting my investigation. Up until now it has only been a temporary non-working issue. Hope to get to dig into it before too long and see if can get it back going. Feedback and opinions much appreciated.

New shop went over everything and replaced both the regulator and the generator. Said is good to go. Curious to put volt meter on it to see what the numbers are now. Also curious about regulator as the one on the tractor was new. Wondering if new one tested bad or just got replaced. Appreciate...

VERY good summation! This is actually my dads tractor and I have been trying to help him with it. I understand he put it on a trailer and is taking it to a different starter/alternator shop to be tested this morning. My synopsis is the generator is failing.

Thank you for clearing that up and the link. Will read the link soon. As an update, the charge light seems to now be staying on versus being intermittent before. Volt meter readings verify that with light on no charging taking place. Will have to decide which route to go to correct issue.

Generator removed and tested today. Tested good. Regulator replaced and getting same results. Talking with a guy that works on equipment for a living to see if he can take a look at it. Appreciate all the feedback.

Is it safe to assume this set up, when working properly, would be able to operate a hydraulic cylinder? Getting ready to use trailer spreader and would like to be able to use one that has a hydraulic engagement mechanism that pushes gear into spreader tire to make spreader work.

Picked up new regulator and seem to be getting the same voltage readings as with the original regulator. Battery light seems to be going off now when RPM’s at operating speed. Was sporadic off and on with original. Time will tell if new one is any different.

Seems to be a very common issue for these tractors. Same thing happened to me years ago. Intended on replacing the sensor but so far have not have any issues with it disconnected. Hard to justify replacing something that may fail again if not having issues with it out of service.

Loosened the two bolts and the single bolt. None allow the lever to adjust or move other than all as one unit. Sure looks like there is no adjustment.

If so, then the only adjustment would be the links that allow you to level the 3PT. I used those years ago as shown in the manual to meet the recommended measurement from the ground in its lowest position with nothing attached.

I disconnected mine several years ago. Intended on replacing it but never did. Have had no issues starting even in cold weather. Cold for south MS that is. 20’ and 30’s about as cold as it gets and I usually don’t have to be on tractor during the really cold periods.
