Implement on 3 point "bounces" when at transport height?

Or . . . on my 2006, for the past 3 years, my 3 point went from a bounce that was noticed to spooky. It got the point that I just did not want to be near the 3 point when the tractor was running because for no apparent reason, it would jerk up a couple of inches. Sometimes it was 15 seconds...

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

OK, I'm back. Great comments. Thank you all. I'm into raking now, so I'm not running at the edge of available power, but although my autumn is fully loaded, it is an issue I will work on as time permits. Some questions answered: this tractor is 2006 and simple, but with turbo. Air filter...

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

Good point. I'll have to check out my setup to see if it has a cooler already. If so, I'll try to ensure it is cleaned. Related to that, the other day I got down to 1/4 tank and was thinking that the entire volume was circulating too often to allow time to cool. I stopped and filled fuel to...

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

Maybe ... but I'm not inclined to take any action to find out. Very clearly, my issue seems to change with either ambient air temp or "final" engine operating teimp. Clogging would not tend to improve if running constant but the air temp drops.

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

Yes, turbo. Can you explain more about what you know of failure? In my mind, I'm thinking the thing is spinning or it is not. I have read that turbo failure is a thing.

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

I have a 4 cylinder JD 5425 - 65 PTO hp utility tractor by definition. For two years, this has demonstrated power loss when I use it at full power when cutting hay. The crop is consistent density and I cut for hours. Power starts off great but can start to decline after 20 to 30 minutes. I...

JD SCV (remote) is throwing out the hydraulic hose

UPDATE We have a solution for the problem! Part numbers, too! This issue has plagued me, and it appears that it has plagued JD as well, for they manufactured with one design, switched to a second design, and are now using a third design. Original OEM for top+bottom SCV couplers (these are...

    Tractor has another fuel problem

TractorData says yours is a diesel. There is no fuel bowl, per se. The fuel path will be tank->filter->injector pump. Some, maybe most diesels, have an electric pump that helps move fuel to the injector pump. If your observation is that fuel is present in your filter, then you still have not...

    Thoughts on GST transmissions

You are trying to power shift under power on a hill? Why? Get to know the GST transmission characteristics. If you insist on NOT using the clutch, shift like you would in a stick shift car/truck without using the clutch. For upshifts, run up the RPMs, lift off the throttle as you shift the...

    Burned Up Trailer Wiring

Good thing to do. I'm left wondering if the "grounding" of that trailer wire might occur at the truck connection, meaning maybe the trailer itself is fine. I've had to replace my truck's 7 blade connector and noted that the backside of the connector could be exposed to unknown events. An amp...

Titan Attachments Quick Hitch Initial Review

I happen to love quick hitches. My first tractor had one that came with it, so I learned how convenient it is to hook up. I bought one for the other 6 tractors I have owned, but it was because of their value to me. I have bought more Cat 1 QH than anything else. What I learned is that I...

Caught 4 small feral hogs at a time, this morning

There is a saying here in Texas, "If you don't have a hog problem, you will have." I am on the river and have one. For years my initial solution was hunting, 120 to 150 per year, but when they didn't stop and I got tired of getting up at night and looking for them, I changed tactics a few...

    Mid mount grader blade ??

They are extremely useful for finishing. You don't need a tall blade or high ground clearance. If the plan is to move large amounts or cover a large area, more capacity is needed. But for working a driveway or parking lot, they are great. A front or rear blade must have extra wheels in order...

    30HP vs 26HP 60" bush hog?

Agreed - I would keep both. Sounds like they are non-DEF. If you are buying a new 25+ hp tractor, you would be getting into DEF, which would only be a continuous headache, especially as much use as you would give it. As pointed out earlier, HP determines your rate of cutting, either in width...

    Small towable graders?

Another approach to your neighbor's $1200 hydraulic hose issue is to (1) only repair what fails, and not everything possible, (2) specify and shop around the complete replacement list, looking for a source that responds to "give me your lowest price for the whole", (3) buy a used...

    Small towable graders?

I don't believe that the "3 point thing" (adjustment) will do what you need. It doesn't matter if a 3 point is at the bottom or somewhere in the middle. It is designed to not go lower than what you set it at, but it can go up. Therefore bottoming out has no benefit. Regarding land planes...

Three children, one adult dead in farm tractor crash in York County, PA.

The pictures help a great deal. Being a paved road, suitable for automobiles, makes road slope seem to be a non-cause. From the picture of road departure, makes me wonder if the tractor operator had a medical issue.

Valve Stems on my New Tractor

See if you can determine the tire type. Most of my tractors have radials, but some are bias. On mine, the radials say 25 is max. I assume max only if carrying maximum load, otherwise I back off the pressure. All radials will squat - its just their design. What I do is put them on flat...

Need a Primer on Tractor brake lock

I didn't see a response, so try the unsplit, if you have left & right locked together. With the tractor in low, test the left and test the right brakes separately. You should be able to make the wheel skid with the brake. Once upon a time ... I bought a used L3800 with HST. Had 69 hours...

    This Bank is KILLING Me….

Depending on how much "modify / fabricate" abilities you have, ideas I might think of: 1) Create wheel spacers so set the tires out wider than factory? County mowers have some really wide settings. 2) Use a long pole or beam of some sort that is connected to the tractor on the "uphill" side...

    Critique what went wrong.

Gotta say that I thought I knew what you were saying, and I agreed the first time around, until I re-read it. I thought you were saying, or intended to say, that the tension was adding to the bending load on the trailer bed. The reason I was thinking that is because I have seen that happen...

I jumped the gun... now what?

Want another idea to ponder? 25 years ago, we bought country acreage then sold our subdivision house. With the wife and the two kids still at home, we moved onto the place. Living was in a small 900 SF place for prior-owner workers. Those owners lived off-property. My wife and I agreed that...

    tank sprayer suggestions?

Some ideas. This is the setup that I dreamed about for years. I started with the 25 gallon Fimco sprayer from TSC for the bed of my Mule. Legs broke after a while, so I salvaged the Fimco pump and wand and bought a 65 gallon poly tank from TSC. Custom added that setup to my non-FEL tractor...

    Who Makes a Trouble-Free 60" Diesel Zero-Turn?

It may be too big for your wish list, but 15 years ago the wife and I bought a barely used JD 997 ZT. Drove 400 miles to pick it up. It has a 72" deck, but I believe some came with smaller decks. 34hp (I believe) diesel. The wife, main driver, has put 1,400 hours on it. Absolutely NO...

cannot remove PTO SHAFT FROM TRACTOR — RESOLVED!!!

A picture of the connection would help. Plus, perhaps you can give some information as you can recall. First, is the PTO female portion all steel or could it be aluminum? Were the splines on the female 6 solid pieces, or made of up many thin lines? The primary reason for the questioning is...

    Remove ROPS

If you haven't figured out the engineering yet, I'm guessing that the engineers assumed the tractor is on a side slope if it tips. When it does, they would prefer that it stays on its side as it slides on the slope - stopping rotation. If it's a long slope, one would not want to see it roll...

    Kubota L3710 Steering Seal Fix?

The answer is no - don't have to honor Kubota with your wallet. If you are adventurous enough to do a cylinder rebuild yourself and don't want to pay the high prices, I noted that Abom79 discusses how he dealt with that by measuring and ordering from Hercules: Glad to know you got the...

Best way to clear small trees from pasture

Personally, I would not be concerned about the robustness of your cutter. The duty factor that I have witnessed seems to be associated to the thickness of the deck and the gearbox. If the gearbox has a clutch, then you are good to go. The deck will not be harmed by anything except rust. I...

    Our barn build

Yes, rebar, rebar, rebar. The only alternative worth considering would be wire slab mesh - looks like steel cattle/hog panels. Concrete is great for compressive forces, but weak on tension. The steel compensates for the tension part. Every time I see a slab that has cracked because someone...

    John Deere Seat switch

5' King Kutter bent bush hog Lift Arm Brace

FWIW - I think I have owned three of those 3-point shredders that you show. I found it frustrating that all were built with those metal straps, for if the tail wheel was forced up, say going through a ditch, the straps are unforgiving and are forced to bend. Because I am good at customizing...

5' King Kutter bent bush hog Lift Arm Brace

Be sure the nut on the bolt is self-locking. Because of the air gap, you cannot tighten enough to keep a nut from spinning off, even if you use a steel lock washer. Different ways to ensure the nut stays on: (1) Use 2 nuts back-to-back and tighten them against each other (may require a...

    John Deere Seat switch

On my JD mower, I discovered that the seat switch is NO (Normally Open) without a rider, so when one is seated, it makes contact for the two wires that go to it. The seat has a wire connector somewhere close to the seat. I unplugged mine and inserted a small copper wire across the two...

You said it right - bending wood is like bending a spring. Once I was in my cab tractor on the outskirts of the woods with a batwing. One limb caught the loader arms. As the limb slipped over the arms, it slapped my side door/window, shattering it. Another issue is that dead trees can fall...

Quick Fix for a Broken Hydraulic Hose?

As a suggestion: If you want to keep the spares and cost to a minimum, try the following. I like to use DiscountHydraulicHose.com. Purchase a long 1/4" hydraulic hose, say 25 feet. With it, buy some "Field-Attachable (Reusable) Hose Fittings", for example standard NPT for the 1/4" hose. The...

Keeping the Miller is a strong consideration. I've seen some videos touting Pulsed MIG, so began to think that maybe I should look for Pulsed MIG and Pulsed TIG in one unit. Might even be able to finance a significant portion of a new unit with the old. I'm not heading for the cheapest I can...

I hope this is an acceptable topic for a tractor forum. I'm not a welder by profession, but I have needs. Did I say that wrong? I have owned and used a Millermatic 210 MIG welder for more than a decade. Flawless machine and it seems like a month does not go by without using it. I now have...

    PTO Shaft Extender

I have used a tractor PTO shaft adapter, similar to your picture, for years. My adapter converted 21 spline "1000" to 6 spline "540". It allowed my tractor to use it's faster 1000 RPM PTO to drive my 540 stuff, thus reducing engine RPMs from 2000 to 1100. As you suggest, that's one option...

Need older tractor recommendations for round baling.

Overpowered? LOL. Seems that I can confirm the following: it would be rare to find someone who says he has too much land, his barn is too big, or his tractor is overpowered. For my first tractor, I passed up a 130hp tractor I found in the classified. I was convinced I only wanted 100 for my...

Need Help Avoiding Turning too Sharp with E12 Batwing Mower

I do not recommend adjusting tire width for your mower. Width means stability - a very desirable condition. I have learned the hard way that 80 degrees is indeed a limit. My used batwings (2 of them in my career) never came with a CV driveline, so I bought one. I think the first was $1000...

Kubota L3710 runs for 20 minutes then won't run at speed or at all.

I read all of the posts and am curious about a couple of points. I have an L3710 - really like it. The fuel tank is at hood level, behind the instrument panel. Maybe I haven't researched enough, but I don't think I have an electric lift pump for fuel. The tank is above the injector, so my...
