The eaton 11 light duty hydro in the mtd is more similar to the bdu10L. Both the eaton 11 and bdu10L are much better for pulling or doing strenuous loads than the k72. Its a good thing you have a tractor thats just for heavy jobs.

Welp theres your issue right there. Courage engines are terrible. My neighbors tractor has a 27hp courage on it and it is mega hard to start. Doesnt burn oil yet. And grinds when cranking.

IMO the 2015 and newer Kohlers arent worth a crap. But are still better than a majorityof the other brands out there. Also what model Kohler is on that zero turn? It really depends on the model as i see only the Command being the only good kohler engine still besides the agies and diesel kohlers.

All im going to say is beware, as the owner of an x540, that POS has broken down so many times. I will never buy another john deere. Baby the machine, change the oil every 25 hours, air filter has to be change every 10 hours or will cause major engine damage (at least that happened in my case)...

As far as hydraulics yes but they have the same capabilities. Also the cub having a stronger transmission it can do more strenuous tasks but still basically the same tasks. Also the 2500 series had a hydraulic tiller too.

The Deere is slightly bigger yes, but if it weighs less doesn’t that tell you that its not as well made? It does have better fit and finish but not strength of construction.

Actually i just did the math on the torque of the BDU10L in the cub cadets, they actually have 626.5 footpounds of torque! No joke, all you have to do is convert 85 inch pounds into foot pounds and you get 7.1 then you multiply by the reduction ratio which is 30.6 by 7.1 and you get 217...

As far as im concerned, the cub 2500 series are better than the x500 series. I own both tractors so i know first hand.

Cub Cadets IMO are superior to John Deeres. Unless were talking about the cheap lawn tractors then i dont really matter.

Amsoil small engine 10w30 is all you will need. As well as amsoil 20w50 hydro fluid for the tranny.

HydroGear BDU10L-225. They are equivalent to the k72 but a little stronger, also very comparable to the 15u Sundstrand.

OVER $13,000! Thats insane! You could buy a x700 series for that much money! (Or just get the cub you got with a better trans, engine, frame, the list goes on and on. And for half the price!) Thats about how much a kubota bx costs with no attachments. Deere has really gone off the deep end.

Very good review Tom! Nice machine! I like the stamp decks too. They mow better than the fabricated decks ive owned did. I had an x540 and its a piece of junk compared to my gt2544. I think this will serve you great for years to come.

I didnt know there was that much of a price difference! There is one model in the xt2 line that has a k62 transmission.

I agree with richard, depending on how big your yard is, i would try to find a gt2521 or gt2523 for the better mower decks and steel hood. Then you have a super heavy duty garden tractor for both snow blowing and mowing and will take you much less time!

After doing further research (and reading the bdu and 15/70 series manuals and specs). You can infact use 20w50 in the bdu10l and bdu21l incase anyone wanted to use the amsoil 20w50 hydrostatic fluid.
