    Loader  Bracket/hole/nut

My new- (to me)- L2900/ LA480 loader has a bracket on the top/side of the loader bucket. Also a hole and a threaded nut. (both sides) Color and welds look factory. WHAT is the purpose?

    October Snows

Looks like this morning we'll be hearing that familiar "Chainsaw Symphony" all up and down the East Coast. Wet snows and trees still in leaf make for an evening of candlelight and Scrabble.:D I shot this an hour into the storm Saturday morning. Now the sumac branch is under a foot of slush...

To split, or not to split: that is the question.

With apologies to Wm Shakespeare! If time is not a factor, and there is a place to get the wood off the ground, and under cover, is there a reason to split the log? (Assuming it will fit in the stove:laughing:)

    Backhoe  Logging with a Backhoe

Is it safe (for the backhoe, not the operator:D) to pull logs out of the woods with the backhoe bucket? Or is it better to hook the logging chain to the FEL, and drive in reverse? I am thinking about the stresses on various parts.

    CT230 vs L2800

I sat on- but did NOT drive- both tractors (same dealer) yesterday as I begin to shop for something built in the 21st Century:D The price is similar, as is the HP, and "size". The Bobcat is 400 lbs heavier, and I felt every pound. It just seemed like a bigger machine. I like the telescopic...

Live vs Independent PTO: Gear vs HST

With a gear tractor an independent PTO makes life much easier, especially when mowing or tilling. How important is it with an HST transmission?

    Crazy idea? Outrigger/splitter.

Before I destroy any more brain cells on this thought, has anyone tried using a backhoe outrigger to split logs? This one (Ford 4500) has a three foot stroke.

    Hours vs Miles

Is there some rule of thumb on used tractor hours? In cars/trucks we know a five year old vehicle with 25,000 miles was owned by the proverbial "little old lady who only drove it to church", and the same car with 100,000 was a traveling battery salesman, with a half ton of samples in the trunk...

    JD850 front wheel removal?

I can't get the front wheel off: I removed the six inner (larger) bolts. They go through to the green inner part of the wheel. Then I first pulled/yanked, then pounded the rim with a 5 lb hammer. Not any movement at ALL- like it was still bolted on. What am I doing wrong? (The wheel, as far as I...

    Price check 3038E

I stopped in the local dealer yesterday. They have a 3038E smack beside the front door- hard to miss! They quoted me $17,600 on it, R4's and FEL. That's a good bit less than the on-line prices of JD and an L3800 Kubota ($21,670)

    Back to square one!

I came here a few weeks ago, looking for info on "new" CUTS. I have a 30 year old 2WD JD 850, and an even older Ford 4500 TLB. Like to replace one or both with something made in this century. I limited my search to Kubota and JD- dealers equal distance (10 miles) apart. Then I started reading...

    eHydro vs PowrReverser

Anyone have experience with either/both? Pros and cons? They both seem ideal for loader work. A little more power with the gears, and a thousand bucks more for the eHydro (on the JD 3320).

    Trading Up from JD 850

My 850 is 2400 lbs, 22 hp. 2WD, gears, turf tires. And more than 30 years old! I want/need 4WD, R4's, HST. I like the size; what is today's equivalent in JD and Kubota- I'm 20 min. from each dealer.

    Tractor Fever!

I'm here because it's time to enter the 21st C. JD is 850 too little, the Ford TLB is too big. And-like me- both are too old. Like Goldilocks, I need one that is "just right". I'm halfway between a Deere and a Kubota dealer. The Kub is a big glitzy showroom, the JD is family owned, farm oriented.
