755 Blowing Anti-freeze Out the Overflow

My brother replaced the radiator cap on his 755 (he said the old one "looked funny" ) with an OEM cap. Since then, he says he's getting anti-freeze out the overflow when he runs the engine at higher RPM's. Whaddya' think - head gasket? TIA.

Snow  47 Blower Not Throwing Snow Very Far

My brother picked up a "47" blower over the weekend, and installed it on his 755. When he tried it out, it only throws snow about 1 foot!! Comparing it with the 47 on the another 755 we have, he noticed there is about 1/2" clearance between the impeller blades and the cylinder the impeller...

    *#@*@&# Metric Pipe Threads

So the fuel guy was by today, and I figured I'd have him top off my 55 gal barrel, since it looks like winter's just getting revved up. I have one of those hand crank barrel transfer pumps similar to this http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=45743 except it ISN'T...

    2-stroke mixes age-resistant?

A buddy of mine stopped by the other day to look at buying a chainsaw. He purchased some property and wants to clear out some trees, mostly mountain hardwoods (cherry/oak/maple/beech) that have fallen, been knocked over by the last guy who timbered the property, and/or are standing. He has an...

    Oil Filter Confusion

I've been sitting around, acting pretty smug, thinking I knew just about all there was about oil filters for the Yanmar engines in my various small John-Deere equipment (3 cyl engines, 20 - 33 HP), and some Kubota's that a few guys owned. It seemed pretty simple, since they all take pretty much...

    Front mount blower for 755

Brother #1 needs a front mount blower for his 755. Brother #2 found one through this forum a couple years ago, and I thought we had a line on one for Brother #1's through this earlier thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-owning-operating/132412-front-snowblower-jd755.html but...

    RTS 5-40 for $9.25/gal at Sam's Club!!

Yesterday, I found RTS 5-40 at Sam's for $27.72 for the 3-1 gallon container packs. This is the CI-4+ version. It had been selling for ~$43/pack of 3 gallons. They're closing it out, according to the manager. I don't know if they're preparing for the new CJ-4 stuff, which I'm starting to see at...

RTS 5-40 Okay in Kubota BX23? Filter?

Brother just picked up a cherry little 22 HP BX23 with loader and backhoe; 82 hrs on it. He was wondering if Rotella "T" 5W-40 would be okay. Being a J-D green guy, I'm not sure about questions related to orange :D but I'm sure it'll work fine. According to the WIX site it looks like the...

Replacement Sealed Beams for S-W/Hobbs Lights

My nephew has some Stewart-Warner/Hobbs lights on his quad (they were replacements for the OEM's that met their demise as a result of another nephew's ummm.. bad judgement ). Anyway, the lights are a wide angle flood, which do a great job of illuminating about 30-40 feet out, but...

    Freewheeling 997!!

Bumped into an old buddy today at the J-D dealer. While we were discussing the affairs of the world, he mentioned a problem he's been having with his couple year old 997 zero-turn mower. Going down hills, it freewheels. Returns the handles to the neutral position, but it won't stop. He's...

    Pre-mix TCW3?

I have a number of 2-stroke units (Stihl/Husky chainsaws; Lawn Boy mower; Polaris quad), and was wondering if it's okay to use the TCW3 stuff in all of them. Currently I'm using Poulan synthetic pre-mixed for the saws and mower, in the proper ratios, of course, and some brand or other TCW3 in...

    Front Mount Blower for 755

    What's "Break-In" Oil?

I know this has been discussed before, but, for some reason, the Search function isn't helping very much. :( Over in the J-D Owning/Operating section, they're discussing using J-D break-in oil, which got me to thinking 'just what IS break-in oil? How does it differ from regular oil?'

How Do I Protect Oak Tree Seedlings over Winter?

I know this is an equipment forum, but I have a tree question. :) My niece showed up with 10 bare root oak seedlings this spring, so, we got some 5 gallon drywall mud buckets, poked some holes in the bottom, put a couple inches of gravel in there and some good soil, and put 'em in there, then...

What Real Difference does the Oil's Ratings Make?

So, yesterday evening I'm sitting in the garage waiting for the latest batch of wild thunderstorms to get finished (they've been spaced about perfectly - just as things dry out enough from the last ones to get some work done, along comes a new bunch :( ) and I get to looking at some oil jugs...

    Ferris ZTR's - Any Problems?

My brother is looking at a Ferris Zero Turn Mower. I'm not sure of the model, but, I think he mentioned one having a 60" deck and Kawasaki gas engine, or another one with a 72" deck and 33 HP Cat. diesel (holy mackerel!!). He says the Ferris' have a suspension system to cushion the ride a bit. I...

Anyone else having a problem with their X595 running hot? Mine is used strictly for mowing (54C deck), it's coming up on 3 years old, and has roughly 200 hours on it. It seems to be getting worse - if the ambient temp is 80 degrees or above, that needle sneaks over very close to the red range...

Yanmar vs Deere Engines - Issues?

I'm wondering if there have been any major (or minor) problems with the Deere engine being used in the 4000 series as opposed to the Yanmars in the 2000/3000's. The Yanmars have built a pretty good reputation over the years. I'm guessing enough Deere engines have been in use for enough hours by...

Really Weird Tire Losing Air Issue

Here's one that is driving me about out of my mind!! The rear tires on my J-D 955 are partially liquid filled. If I park the tractor with the valve stem of the left rear tire anywhere below the horizontal plane (using the clock face analogy - from 3 to 9), the tire will lose...

    "Shelf Life" of Engine Oils

    Final Mowing of the Season

Okay - I know winter's just around the corner here in Southwest PA, so, my nephew and I were discussing how short to mow the grass for its winter nap. I was thinking I read somewhere to mow it short for the final time - he said he thought it was supposed to be pretty long. Now I'm...

Is there a \"Less Knobby\" ATV Tire? Just picked up a little Honda 90cc quad for great-niece #1 (straight "A"'s and perfect attendance this past school year ). I'm not crazy about those super-knobby tires on the front end (Maxxis A953's) - I've seen kids yank the bars instead of turning...

Snow  Front Mount Snow Blower for 755

My brother's looking for a front mounted snow blower for his 755. He's tired of looking over his shoulder using the 3-pt rear blower he has now, I guess. He told me the other day that the local J-D dealer told him there was no front mount blower available. Sounds a little fishy to me...

    Kubota B7800 & Rotella "T" 5-40

Kubota B7800 & Rotella \"T\" 5-40 I'm sure this is a re-hash, but, a friend is wondering if changing to the Rotella "T" 5-40 synthetic in his B7800 (90 hrs or so on the machine) will void the warranty, cause any problems, etc.. so, I figured I'd post this then show him the thread results. Thanks,
