Since you had gas coming out of the exhaust I would take a smell of the oil to make sure it also doesn't have gas in it. Very common for the gas to also fill the crankcase when the float valve doesn't seal and causing the overfueling issue.

Are we talking about the metal caps coming out or just the rubber dust covers that are used on greaseable axle trailers. I suspect that you have too much grease behind the caps and when the grease gets warm it expands to the point that it is pushing the rubber caps out if your trailer has those.

A poor battery connection can also cause it. The load created by the starter cause a voltage drop that caused the starter solenoid to disengage temporarily, and then when the load drops the voltage returns which allowed the starter solenoid to re-engage. Rinse and repeat.

From further research it looks like that FD611 is outside the serial number range for the plastic gear. Supposely serial number FD611V000001-FD611V000050 may have the plastic gear.

All of the modern small engine oils contain ZDDP So Briggs, Kohler, Honda, Stens, Kawasaki, Kinetix, other brands small engine oils will have the required additives for your air cooled engine

Go test run several brands from dealers in your area. And the one that you like the best and fits yours needs is the best bank for the buck.
