    Tire Chain Length Question

Thanks to all for the great advice. And thanks for the link Lou. They want more slack in the mounted chain than I would have thought. I always thought the tighter the better.

    Tire Chain Length Question

I’m putting on my new tire chains for the first time and have a question. There is a lot of slack chain left and I haven’t even rolled a bit to readjust them. Is this normal? Should I cut some of that extra length off or zip tie the excess etc.? They are Aquiline Talons 16.9 - 24. Are R-1 Ag...

    Ferguson 30 side hood badge

This was in the bottom of an old tool box I've had for years. Looking at images most are gray letters with a blue background. Mine is blue letters with a gray background. What's the difference? I only have the one. Looks like it's the left side. Thanks

Is this an International sickle bar mower?

Thanks, I'll look it over. A friend of mine thinks it's an International, (or Farmall), that's been converted to 3 point hitch.

Is this an International sickle bar mower?

And if so where can I get a new pitman arm? Will a New Idea PA work? Mine is 35.5" long. I know, I should go find some hornbeam and make my own. Maybe someday but not yet. Thanks

    Chain size question

After searching a bit, looks like 14.9s are about 7" shorter in circumference. Probably can't stretch 7" to make them fit. I guess I could add a couple links for length. Any thoughts? These are used chains.

    Chain size question

Will chains listed as fitting 14.9 x 24 tire, fit on a tire marked 16.9 x 24? Thanks for any wisdom.

    Cool Nature Photos

We've had a pair of Luna moths on our front porch for the last couple of days. At my old house it wouldn't be unusual to see 3 or 4 Lunas on the house next to the porch light. It was also not unusual to see just 4 wings on the ground. I think they were tasty meals for the bats quite often. I...

My Sainted Mother taught me about click beetles when I was very young. To hold them in the palm of your hand upside down and they will click at their hinge and right themselves. Of course they were much smaller than this guy.

I'm not sure. I have smelled smoke a week ago or so that could be the fires. I just took this picture standing in the same spot as my lake fog middle picture. You can see it's hazy, but it's 90 degrees out so that's not odd for a hot summer day. So I'm going to say generally I haven't noticed.

    Pink Lady's Slipper

I was working outside today and found about 6 more. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says there are 4 species of lady's slippers in Maine. The most common is the pink, (sometimes white), lady's slipper, the yellow, the showy, and the ram's head lady's slipper. The...

    Pruning young apple tree

Thanks the great information. I don't like those low branches either. I didn't want to cut them the first year because I was afraid I would shock the new tree too much. It should be Ok this fall correct? Can I cut more than one main branch or is that too radical for a young tree? Jstpssng, I'm...

    Pruning young apple tree

Thanks for the replies. We did have some deer nibbling on the branch tips last year so that's when I put the string around the trees with garden netting over the trees themselves. I did take the netting off for the spring growth. So far no more damage.

We planted 2 Cortland and 1 Golden Delicious apple trees last year. The Cortlands surprised us and are blooming this year. Snow blower on a side x side UTV ?

I know this isn't a tractor but I bet some here will have experience with one. If it's not allowed moderator, please delete. How well could a 28hp 4x4 utv handle a 60" snow blower? I've got lots of hills with a dirt driveway/road. All the controls are in the cab. The blower has it's own gas...

Getting the wheel/tire combination I want on a new tractor

Thanks for the kind words CDBUG and Lou. I'm in Norway so a bit north. Attached is a picture of my Branson 4720 and I have my wheels out as far as they can go. It feels much more stable when going sideways on a hill than when I got it with them tucked all the way in. It's a big deal for me to...

Getting the wheel/tire combination I want on a new tractor

You're probably right arrow. I used to have a Ford 8N I plowed with 30 years ago and it did a good job with ladder chains. My older mentor back then told me put 1500 lbs. on the 3point hitch and you won't know it's the same tractor.

Getting the wheel/tire combination I want on a new tractor

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far. I wouldn't mind wider R-1s. The only downside is if I decide to plow snow with the tractor, I'll have to get ring chains so they won't fall between the bars, which aren't cheap for a good set. I'll keep looking for dealers. I'm sure one will try to...

Getting the wheel/tire combination I want on a new tractor

Getting the wheel/tire combination I want on a new tractor

I'm looking at a Mahindra 5145 and twice now I've been told I can't get R-4 tires with the 2 piece width adjustable wheels. They can get R-1 Ag tires like that but not R-4s. I pointed out that the factory brochure shows the wheel/tire combo I want but have been told they can't get them like...

    Are backhoe subframes universal.......

Thanks for the information. It would be pretty easy to make the subframe fit any tractor that had a 3 point hitch. I'm thinking about selling my tractor and wondering if I should keep the Amerequip backhoe.

    Reversed wheel for 15 series

Here's my wheel. I was looking at a new TYM that was pretty cheap and one thing I noticed was it didn't have adjustable wheels so it must have been the "economy" model. I forget what they're really called but by separating the rim, part that touches the tire, 6 bolts, from the center disk, 8...

    Reversed wheel for 15 series

First picture is a better look at how far out my tires are. I do hit lots of rocks Bob and it is very organic. Probably mostly leaves. Reversed wheel for 15 series

I have a 4720 and I moved my wheels out as far as they go. I live on 13 acres and there isn't much flat ground, (although the locals still call me a flatlander). I have wondered if it's harder on wheel bearings the wider you go but I would bet most homeowner users will never see a difference...

    4720 3point hitch and PTO don't work

Looks like those nuts are 16mm x 2. So far the only 3 point hitch implement I have is a sickle bar mower and I don't think an inop draft control will matter for that. But a wonky PTO will matter.

My new to me 2007 4720 has a few problems but still works except for the 3 point hitch and the pto. Thanks to ptsg I have the service manuals but still need some help. Rebuilding Branson 4720h Kukje A2300. What I have learned so far.

Thanks for your information Bob. I just bought a 2007 4720 and am wondering how much I will need to do. My engine smokes, (blue), a lot for a few minutes after startup then just a bit after that. I'm following your progress with much interest. The previous owner of mine really neglected everything.

My tractor is a 2007 and I'm having a hard time finding an owners manual. I ordered one on DVD that covered 20 series tractors but it's too new.
