Heat Tape- 120V or 240V to prevent ice accumulation?

Just circling back to comment that my heat tape is installed, also some snow guards to prevent sliding ice and snow from stripping it off where it has been fastened. I appreciate all the positive comments and help. I used 230V Raychem/nvent Wintergard wet, one segment up a downspout then across...

White pine top broken, why & how?????

Perhaps it has grown back by now? 😀 This past summer, I was standing on our back lawn when I heard a crack and a second later a mighty crash in the forest. I went to find a 22" diameter pine tree had snapped about 4 feet off the ground. From a canker. It happened on a perfectly still day with...

    Question on Lake Tahoe

Enclosed is a very interesting part of history in the Sierras. Many people know Virginia City, NV had extensive silver mining. What most don't know is that the mines consumed 100 cords of firewood per day. Think of that for a minute-- that's 3,000 cords of firewood in one month. So in a desert...

    Good morning!!!!

My uncle told me: "if it doesn't hurt, it doesn't work!" :) Suprisingly, had yet another wildfire scare yesterday. About 11am a brush fire broke out. Winds were gusting to 60mph and blowing straight from it to us. It was moving rapidly, went from 1 acre to 100 acres pretty fast. 11 homes...

    Good morning!!!!

I once had a tree from my (California) property fall across a property line and cut a neighbor's shed in half. No injuries, but an expensive repair and that triggered a decision about whether my insurance or his to cover the loss. In CA, if the tree was healthy there is no liability back on...

Heat Tape- 120V or 240V to prevent ice accumulation?

Very helpful, thanks. I have a downspout on each end of the gutter, giving me the option to do two 120V runs, one up each downspout meeting in the center. If 120v need to split it up due to limits on total footage run. My installer recommends looping the bottom of the "W" pattern down into the...

Heat Tape- 120V or 240V to prevent ice accumulation?

Ice sliding off the roof of my metal garage damages the gutter every year. I want to prevent this in the future. The building is insulated, but the overhanging eave is not. It's the roof area above this eave where I accumulate ice, which is within 3 feet of the gutter. Farther up the roof is...

Good idea but the only pipe opening is below grade in the side of a narrow irrigation ditch. (18" wide?) Rigging a trap to that would be difficult and I'm concerned about crazed marmots if I pull the weighted down plywood barricade out. 😀

Mine was many years ago-- $100k for a 20 acre lot. Agent said "cash speaks volumes" so I jumped on it. Offered $80k cash. Counter was at $99,900. 😀

I've thought of this but the only realistic shot is down through a narrow opening in a metal grate, with concrete on the bottom. I don't think the neighbors would be an issue with gunfire, but I might be with a ricochet.
