Cat 1 disc with cat 2 arms?

I have a cat 1 three point disc that I want to use with my cat 2 tractor. I've tried to attach it, but the cat 2 arms won't pull in far enough to latch to the cat 1 width. I sure don't want to heat/bend my lift arms. Do these style adapters widen the cat 1 attaching point enough to fit the...

    Sprayer tank fill marks?

I just bought a FIMCO 40 gal three point sprayer and spent a couple hours putting it together yesterday. I'm going to have to figure a way to connect the electric next. It seems well designed and sturdy. Came with yellow Tee Jet nozzles. The tank has no fill marks to judge the amount of fluid...

    Bush Hog chisel plow

I bought an old Bush Hog brand 10 point chisel plow today. The seller lifted it up onto my trailer with his Ford 4000, at an idle. My poor little JD 855 could not lift it whole. It was able to lift an end and drag it off the trailer, without scratching the trailer much. I need to get it...

    3 point frame?

Not coming up with any results, so I'll just ask here. Rather than try and fab up something, I've been looking for a 3 point implement frame to be used to modify or make a 3 point attachment. I cut apart an old 3 point carryall to repurpose the mount, but I need another. An internet search...

    High cropland prices?

I don't farm. It's a wonder any farmer can make a profit these days. 5 years ago, the land around my acreage went for $10k per acre. Recent land sales here in and around Iowa went for $18.3k to $23.7k per acre. Amazing...

    AGM battery?

I bought a "regular" wet battery about 1 1/2 years ago, for my Yamaha atv. I kept it inside and on on the maintainer, off and on. Went out to get going today, no cranking power. Put the jumper box on it and got it going. Battery is stone dead/bad, and won't take a charge. Being out of the...

    Frost heave?

I have (large) sliding doors on my pole barn, but I only need to open one of them. Every winter, the frost heave causes the door to bind and I find myself trying to dig out the door's path in the gravel. It's annoying and sometimes its frozen and I need my pick axe. Short of pouring a...

    Road transport of 10-12' disk?

The SIL is getting ~38 acres this spring and is already talking about tilling for food plots, etc... Looks like I'll have a chance to actually put my Allis D17 (Series III) to work. I haven't seen the place yet. I told him to maybe contract someone for any major tillage or spraying then we...

Tough on Husky chains today... ?

Since it was going to be in the 40's today, I went after the three trees today, that I had taken down last week. A big Ponderosa pine, an Ash and a Poplar. The pine was going to the burn pile, so I lopped the pieces into 8' or so and dragged them off. The Ash and Poplar were cut into stove...

    Ever break a tap?

It's not on a tractor, but... I finally got my two post car lift installed and started to wire it. I wanted a "motor disconnect", so I needed to attach that box to the column. The installer advised that nothing can protrude inside the column where the lift pads run, and don't bother trying any...

    Brown Snot in diesel fuel?

Over the weekend I was called on to fix the SIL's little Kubota B1550, that had no power, then died (again). I've worked on this issue a few times before (twice in the last year), but his time I noticed the fuel filter bowel was black and only half full. I took the filter out and cleaned some...

    Bat Houses?

Anyone here have a bat house? If so, tell us about it; source, placement, painted/stained, success rate? I had one on a 12 foot post on my hunting land in Indiana and never had any move in... I've seen a few bats out here in rural Iowa, and would like to see more. Interesting creatures.

    Fixing a bent axle?

I have a pretty new tandem axle 7500lb car trailer that I either overloaded it (probably) or hit something, that ended up making a skewed LR tire/wheel. No pic handy, but it has pretty good negative camber and some toe out. It wore out the inner tread of the tire, not quite to the cords, yet...

    Local Hydraulic Shops?

I live in rural Iowa, fairly close to Waterloo. The SIL's Kubota B1550 (old) has leaking loader cylinders. I can easily R&R them, but rebuilding them is something I have not done before, parts are ?? and really don't what to try. The "end caps" are not the screw on kind, so I'm assuming C...

    Tried the snow pusher today

I made this 6 foot homemade snow pusher, from a cut down truck plow blade. Only had 3" of snow, but it was real wet stuff, on top of 1/4" frozon rain base.. This is the first real use of it. Worked well and didn't scrape too much gravel up.

    Shooting range

I moved here a year and a half ago and finally got through (most) of the "have to" projects and got to a "want to" project. Sharpening "down" angle?

I've always angled my file "down" the 10 degrees called for in the specs. I got a new 4.5mm Oregon file for my Dewalt battery saw. I actually read the directions  yesterday and noticed it stated to run the file LEVEL @ 0 degrees. Which is correct, and what difference does it make?

I'm a hunter (turkey and deer - for over 20 years) so I'm used to coming home from the woods and checking for and finding a tick or two... This year (I moved to rural Iowa a year ago this week) , I'm picking them off me without having been anywhere except around the yard - mowing, cleanup...

    Carbon Pipeline?

There is a project being planned, and major push back against, an effort to get a liquid carbon dioxide pipeline put in, with lines running all across Iowa. LP prices?

I'm on a "keep full" contract. It's been pretty cold here, and I'm enjoying using my wood stove. I don't run the stove all day, and usually start it about 4pm. It keeps the funace from running, until sometime in the early morning hours. They came out yesterday and pumped in 150 gallons...

    Plowed (snow) farm field

I'm rural, on 3 acres. Farm land all around. We got a few inches of new snow last night. Maybe 8" total on the ground, with bigger drifts. Sometime this morning, they/someone plowed a big path from one end to the other in the snow, in the 80 acres next to me. I didn't hear the tractor or...

Mid mount mower needs to come off.

I have a mid mount mower, under my JD855. I thought the extra weight would help, come plowing time. We got 5 - 6" of snow Friday, with some 2 foot drifts, thanks to the Iowa winds. I'm using a rear blade, turned backwards, unless the front bucket is needed. Not using my chains yet. The...

    What is this?

This saw chain was hanging from a nail in my pole barn, when I bought this place. It's not real long, probably for a 20 - 24" bar, but the chisel teeth are massive and they are spaced at 3". Rusty and I see no numbers on the thing. What could this be for/from?

    Chain sharpening woes.

I have been getting my saw chains sharpened (for me for the last 20 years), since it has been been cheap, well done and easy(er). I have the proper round file, with guide, that I've used for touch ups. Since moving to rural Iowa, I had to find/choose a new hardware store for this (normally...

    First snow for tractor use

I retired in Oct 2020 and moved to Iowa permanently in June of this year. We finally got our first real snow today (~3"), so I was able to use a tractor to clear snow for the first time. Used a back blade (angled and reversed) and it was fun and worked just fine. Granted, it was 28 degrees...

I grew up in a house with a basement, near Chicago. Fast forward 50 years, after living in houses with NO basement (crawl space - then on a slab for 30 years) I have now moved to a 100 year old farm house in rural Iowa. Winter is cold in both locales. This house has a basement, used only for...

    Tires  New 855 Rear Tires

I just bought a 1997 Model 855, with a 420 loader, with 2000 hours on Black Friday. It runs fine, and everything works (except a couple lights). It needs a new/recover seat. It will also need rear tires soon. They are (loaded) turf tires and the sizes don't match all the specs I've seen...
