Plumbing hydrolics for an Allis Chalmers 5015

I had to go look at it. Actually I moved the filter from being between the pump and the valve to between tank and valve. It was restricting the flow to the pump. It has always been in the return side. Now the pump gets fluid from both valve and tank.

Plumbing hydrolics for an Allis Chalmers 5015

Should have said when I got it, the filter was between pump and valve, in the high pressure line

Plumbing hydrolics for an Allis Chalmers 5015

On my Du-Al loader with dual cylinders, the two main posts are tapered rectangular tubes ( smaller at the top) and one is the reservoir. The filter should not be between the tank and the pump, it should be in the low pressure hose between the valve and the tank. My tractor had it between...

    Pricing pallet forks

I got a real nice p air of big heavy duty forks at my local steel recycler ( Pacific Steel) in Butte MT. I’ve been getting all sorts of good stuff there for years. The forks cost me 50 cents a pound. These guys set them aside sometimes but this time I asked the guy running the crane if he...

Thanks to both replies, I can do that. Seems like the valve has a pressure relief, I’ll check that out too

    Tilt cylinder mounting

I’m putting a better bucket on my old Du-Al loader which is on my 57 Case 400. I made new shackles to attach to the bucket and before I locate where to drill the holes for the 4 pins I’d like to know does it matter whether a cylinder piston stops by reaching its own maximum or stops by being...

    No PTO pump pressure

Maybe I'm done with your maybe's and just want my questions answered. I'm running a filter on the return and the return to the T and it will work just Fine. THE END

    No PTO pump pressure

Thanks. What about putting the filter on the return, without tapping into the tank, and leaving the T where it is? Rich B1 above says nothing should be between tank and pump period, but maybe he's just talking about obstruction, whereas the return line would just be adding more fluid to...

    No PTO pump pressure

After reading RuchB1’s post forget that last question about the bypass. I’ll put a filter on the return or a screen on the tank but probably a filter on the return

    No PTO pump pressure

Thanks for answering my question.I read louNY’s attached report on suction filtering. So if the only way to improve my system is to tap the tank, I’ll consider it. It brings two questions to mind. Where should the return line enter the tank (top bottom or middle). and would putting a filter...

    No PTO pump pressure

I appreciate seeing that information, which is the first time I have seen it. You said “if it has vacuum bypsss”. If what has vacuum bypass? Not much moisture here in Montana, especially this year, but I’ve been running this loader 30 years now and it’s still hot the original pump. I only...

looks like I put my reply into the quote above, sorry about that. I’m still learning this forum stuff. My reply starts with “ I repeat, I’m not arguing the terminology. Whatever you say the name of a line is that’s what it is. So where do you think I should put the filter? You said it...

    No PTO pump pressure

Yes into the rest of the system, IF it’s allowed to get that bad. So here’s my question to you. Let’s say you’re on the tractor loading manure or gravel. You’re busy with the controls. A hose bursts, you lose pressure, the controls no longer control anything, right? You’re out of...

    No PTO pump pressure

Thank you, I saw that too. Well I’ll just keep an eye on it and if it doesn’t flow fast enough I’ll lose power but the pump won’t go dry. I’ll worry about it then. . It’s an old pump and I’ve got two spares. But I doubt it’ll get damaged before it shuts the loader down. I’ll get a 25 micron...

    No PTO pump pressure

I get the 90% estimate by virtue of the fact that the return from the valve is entering the T while the pump is sucking on the T, so why would return fluid instead go into the bottom of the tank. It’s primarily circulating in a pump to valve circuit. Which includes the

    No PTO pump pressure

I don’t see how I could attempt to claim a pressurized supply line could pass as a suction line, you’re really grasping at straws there aren’t you? Let’s just say the only return is from the valve to the T then, and anything with suction is just suction line. That’s fine. So the filter is on a...

    No PTO pump pressure

Oh ok you said pressure increases as the heat increases the volume of the fluid. That’s not much pressure. I appreciate the suggestion to get a line filter for the ten micron filter instead of the 50. I’ll look into that.

    No PTO pump pressure

I’m looking for a vent with the 3/4 NPT I have, I think it will prevent condensation and evaporate water. I really haven’t had any leakage except from infrequent repairable seals. It only gets fluid by gravity, so there’s not much pressure inside that tank. Next to none. You haven’t said how...

    No PTO pump pressure

I said: “ my filter is after ( meaning downstream) the valve returns to the suction line so it is filtering the valve return fluid AND the tank fluid”. I totally agree that suction and return are two different things. And as I said, I agree that the fluid out of the valve is return fluid...

    No PTO pump pressure

I don’t know what you mean by valve tank. The four cylinders have four pipes going to the valve body, and there’s a constant flow from the upper inlet of the valve body to the bottom of the valve body where it leaves to go to the T in the suction hose. The suction hose pulls from both the...

They need constant flow when working, to be clear. Not when changing hoses and such short term runs

    No PTO pump pressure

Yes it is working great. As I said, I cracked the pressure port on the pump which is the outlet port. Which purged the air from the pump which let fluid into the pump which primed the pump. Your assumption on what constitutes a return line are close but not quite what my setup is. The...

    No PTO pump pressure

Thanks oldnslo, I always make sure there’s oil in the tank when I run the pump. Sometimes I even remember to open the ball valve. But the pump can run a few minutes with just the oil that’s in it. It’s only going about 500 rpm. The filter is letting enough fluid through to run the 25 gpm...

    No PTO pump pressure

The return line IS the suction line. I said KW was correct on that fact. What contradiction? From the tank you’ve got gravity feed only with the pump off., When the pump is on you’ve got both gravity and suction. No contradiction.

    No PTO pump pressure

BTW it wouldn’t make any sense to put the filter on the intake side of the tank because the tank is the only part that can’t be cleaned easily. It takes a pressure wash to clean it. It would probably be a good idea to add a second one there however.

    No PTO pump pressure

Of course it has a relief valve, it’s running a loader. The pump is almost the lowest point, it can’t be lower than the PTO shaft it’s on, and the tank is also the vertical post on the loader so it’s as high as it’s going to get, but it’s return port IS two inches lower than the pump and it...

    No PTO pump pressure

I think it’s air lock but won’t be able to bleed it until I get a 1” pipe T in the return port of the pump. I think the reason I’ve never had this problem before might be the cold weather. I’ve just done hydraulics in the summer. It’s a combination of things. I had the filler plug in the...

    No PTO pump pressure

Right. Carquest didn’t have the same 85551. Napa got me one they said swapped, a Napa # 1551. I’ll look online and see if I can check the numbers. But first I need to know for sure that the gravity flow into the filter is supposed to be about the same as the outlet side. Or what ratio is...

    No PTO pump pressure

I’ve got a six spline gear pump on the old Case. Now that I’ve replaced the valve, I can’t get any pressure from the pump. I’ve got great return flow up to the brand new oil filter, but out of the filter only about a tenth as much as going into it. My du-Al loader has a vertical tank which is...

    Fence Lines

My barb wire fence is the original from the homesteader who put it up in 1919. It’s black and doesn’t rust. It keeps the bulls out and the cows in so it isn’t getting replaced any time soon. It’s three strands, the bottom strand gets to as high as 24” in places. Antelope go under it, deer...

    Control size for loader pump

I'm not sure those smaller pumps still work, is there any way of running a test to find out what the GPM on a pump is? Prince can't find the GPM on the big one I have from the cast numbers on it, they want a stamped number but I can't find one.

    Control size for loader pump

Would a 11 GPM gear pump work a 5' wide bucket be plenty big enough? The two old pumps I have are half the size of the pump I've been using so I'm pretty sure they are no bigger than 11 gpm. Prince makes a 14 GPM control and a 25 but nothing between

    Control size for loader pump

Thanks very much, very helpful info there. I have two spare pumps both of which are the smaller size that came with the tractor and which worked this loader just fine, and I could use one of those. Again, no telling the GPM but my question now is what would you guess would be a typical GPM...
