    Cleaning lawn of branches

I wonder if this varies with region / part of the country, or more just with neighborhood, and what size lawns they're mowing. A stander seems like it'd be great for mowing smaller lawns, but much less fun when every house in the neighborhood has 6 acre lawns in hilly terrain. So, what's...

I like your design better, versus the straps they use to tie the wheels down on the JRCO. If yours is anywhere near as durable as theirs, I'd say you have the better product.

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Well, Indiana isn't exactly known for its mountainous terrain, but your mower must be unique among zero turns, if it is impossible to flip it over backwards. Most zero turn mowers are stable side to side, and facing down hill, but can tip over backwards relatively easy when facing up a hill...

That's very cool, Sgt Slag. I think I'll give them a try. One mistake I made when buying my tractor was to equip it with Deere's "heavy duty" bucket, as a primary use of the machine is moving firewood, both in log form (15 foot logs, mostly oak) and in rounds. When moving logs, I use a pair...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Love it! Never seen anything like those, and now I'm ashamed I hadn't thought of that myself. Would be even better if the long edges were also beveled, so they don't tear-in when you turn and the bucket swings side to side.

I like having trees. Besides, my 064 AV is a better felling saw for our eastern hardwood, than the MS661 will ever be, based on weight and power/weight ratio alone. Newer isn't always better, when they're chasing emissions compliance over horsepower. :p Nice! I like that. Might put one on...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Thanks, @Maknwine! I'd probably pull something like that behind my zero turn, no need to get the big tractor out onto a soft lawn at these times of year, if it can be avoided. Yeah, any photos are appreciated, as are brand recommendations from anyone who's owned one. I can say the Ohio Steel...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Spent the morning yesterday picking up sticks before the first mowing. Took several hours, atop what I had already done in the prior two weekends. Since we're nearly at the end of our usual March high winds period, that's probably the last of it, until we get our first summer storms. The...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I just sandblasted and repainted the 60" deck on my zero turn over the winter. It was getting pretty scaley on bottom. I called my local Deere dealer to get pricing on a new stamped steel housing (bare), and they told me the last one they sold in 2018-19 was something like $3600, so we knew it...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I hear ya, there's some serious pucker factor in using a zero turn on a steep hill. My property is very hilly, and now 12 years here, I don't worry about it much anymore. But the first year or two of mowing here, I was frequently concerned that I would tip the thing, given how light they are...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I use a zero turn (Deere 757 ZTrak) on the lawn. My brush hog is only for trails and fields. I sold my last belly mower (Deere 72 inch 7-Iron) almost ten years ago, never going back to one of those!

Those of you mention running a brush hog or rotary mower on your lawn, have a very different definition of lawn, than me. :p

    Cleaning lawn of branches

That's how all purchase prices should be gauged. How's it do with sticks? Looks like a "leaf only" endeavor? I remember my father and grandfather both had a sweepers very much like this, probably badged Craftsman in the 1970's. I remember pulling them around behind the old Bolens garden...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I used to get my kids to help with this chore. They were easier to bribe when they were young. My kids are always the first to volunteer at school or church, or to help a neighbor. But here at home, they can drag their feet like stubborn mules, when it comes to doing any yard work. It's a...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I'll be honest, I was thinking of something like this (but on steroids for pulling behind a 3033R), when I created this thread. A lawn sweeper designed for 3-point behind a 35 hp machine seems like the ideal solution, but I'm not sure such a thing exists.

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I've been doing a lot of this, lately. Works, to a point, when the stuff is small enough to fit in the bucket, but large enough to still stay together in a bundle. I still end up bending and picking up a lot, though.

This is true, for the single spring clean-up, but more difficult to schedule for the repeat of this task required after each and every major summer storm.

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Looks like an excellent way to de-thatch a lawn, if it doesn't dig in too much. Sounds like the easiest way to go for fields bordering woods, but this is a finished lawn space around the house, so this is not an area for flail mower.

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Excellent. Do you have float wheels on this, so you can just drop it and let it follow a lumpy lawn, or do you float it with adjusting your 3-point height? Also, are you using a hydraulic angle, or just manually setting it? My 3033R with loaded tires is an awful heavy machine for the constant...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

You got me curious, so I just went out and counted. Lot with the house is 4 acres, with approximately 3 acres of that being grass. Just counting trees in or overhanging the yard, I counted 99 trees, with 68 of them being mature black walnuts. I pick up a LOT of walnuts in the fall, like a...

I guess the top link could be adjusted to make this work, but my gut is telling me it likely has more likelihood of digging in and peeling up sod while pushing, than pulling?

    Cleaning lawn of branches

I'm with you guys, I've started just focusing on the bigger stuff, and mowing over anything smaller. But it seems the vast majority of the branches coming out of the walnuts are 1" to 2.5" diameter, just a little on the large side for mowing. Bummer to hear there's not a good bucket option, as...

    Cleaning lawn of branches

Every spring, I spend at least a full afternoon cleaning up downed branches from my ~4 acres of lawn, mostly from the more mature walnut and maple trees. I get to repeat this exercise after each major storm, all summer long, and I'm getting awful tired of the routine. Presently, I drive the...
