Hey guys I bought my 2538 used and now am getting ready to change the hydraulic oil at 100hrs, I'm going to us the travelers premium from TSC, but my manual is alittle confusing, it says transmission case holds 8.5gallons, front axle which i plan to use the same hyd. Oil,, because I live in upstate NY, holds 2.5gallons

but in the same row it says final drive, where is that located or is it the same thing, so would 11 gallons be enough 20180425_105656.jpeg

I don't want to add to your confusion but - my owners manual says 11 quarts of engine oil - with filter change it actually took 14 quarts. The transmission/hydraulic oil is much closer. Owners manual says 60 quarts - with filter(s) changed it takes 62 quarts.

Somewhere in that manual it shows you what is labeled - Final drive case(B). Hey - my OP manual is no better than yours and with time and a lot of "out of the box" thought I was able to decipher mine.

I feel your pain ; Ihave the same tractor and the same problem. The manual stinks. I see poeple talking about changing the fuel filter at 100 hrs ,But my manual says 500 hrs .Guess ill go somewhere in between.

Does the manual show where the screen filter goes, I'm not at home and was just thinking about it, I remember seeing screw on filter location, but not the internal/screen one

It is behind the frame rail that goes from front to back on the right side. I would add ~8 gal and gradually add fluid while looking at the fill glass. It is very easy to fill past the glass and with the clear fluid hard to tell you have gone past. Don't ask me how I know this. As has been mentioned the manual sucks and i got different advice from 3 different dealers.

Yup, thanks I found it, had to remove the small threaded rod piece above rail to remove the filter. Poor design/placement

I was told once why most all Operator Manuals suck so bad. Many companies hire exobiologists, or climatologists or receiving clerks to do the translation into English. These three groups of people seem to have extra time on their hands. Exact translation is unimportant - they know that new owners seldom read/refer to their OM. And by the time it may become important as a reference document - the OM has long been lost.
