I have a 1975 Ford 3400 with the wonderful Holley Carb. I have been struggling with it lately. When im going down a hill or the load lightens on the tractor, the engine revs. I throttle down and it will hold at that RPM. Any time there is a large change in load on the tractor the governor doesn稚 seem to hold. It will hold on smaller load changes. Also I am only using the first 1/3 of the throttle. The engine has rev to 2200 at 1/3 throttle. It seems that the governor is sticking with large movement but fine with smaller movements. Is this a bad spring or bad adjustment. I have the shop manual for the tractor and couldn稚 find the governor adjustment in it. Seems more like an operator manual thing, which I don稚 have.
Also on occasion, when starting the tractor, the carb drips gas out of it. It stops if I shut the gas valve off. If not, it seems to run continuously. Most of the time its fine, only when I知 trying to start the tractor and it wont start will I notice gas coming out of the carb. It is running out of the bottom of the carb where it seats against the carb body. There痴 a metal spring tab that holds it in place. It looks like a pressure relief if there is back fire. Is this a stuck float? Normal? Or a different issue?
