1978 Yanmar
Hey Guys. An old man with and old Yanmar 3000 tractor needs help. A neighbor had a new clutch installed in her tractor about 10 months ago and now she cant get PTO to engage for bush hogging. It worked fine before the clutch was installed but PTO shift lever is locked in place and won't engage. The PTO shaft to bush hog rotates freely. Did not need PTO for bush hog until now which explains the lapse in time from new clutch untill now. The mechanic that installed clutch will not return calls so maybe this was a bad install. Everything else works okay. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind this ain't my tractor so I cant drive it in the lake. Thanks.

I don't have an answer for you but a question instead. I am not aware of any of the grey market Yanmars having a dual clutch, however, the US sold 330 did have that as an option. Don't think that is your problem, but something to think on. I don't see how changing the clutch would have affected the pto unless it is a dual clutch. If not a dual clutch and no movement of the pto shift lever then I would suspect something may just be froze up.

This may help and Tractor data Shows YM2500-YM3000. Many hours seat time on the YM2500 And I'm wondering if it actually has 2 PTO. shift levers. 4Spd. Easy to get stuck in between gears or Neutral. I'd check that and if not you can pull out the Whole Pto. Assembly unbolting it from the back and slide it out. Here's a Yanmar 3 Speed PTO. Dia. which my guess the problem is the shifting lever that has a pin that gets sheared.

I do have a 2 stage clutch on my 1963 Ford 2000 but never heard of one on a Yanmar.

Ym3000 Videos I watched a couple and remembering the setup and it does show 2 shift levers. L. side of the seat 2 PTO shift Levers and the R. side High low range Trans. Shifter lever. I can't remember the gear selection but I seen a Fredricks YM3000 tractor also. The YM2500 I was refering to was from Spalding tractor and a Fredricks Refurbish tractor. That's who I would be talking to about parts Etc.. The Pic. of it is in the Fredricks lot. No doubt about it! Been there! ;)

Thanks Carey. Yes it has two shift lecers. The lever to the rear shifts freely. The lever next to seat on left will not move. ????

The forward could be in stuck in gear. When you shift the rear lever into gear the PTO should turn. At least you may be able to get parts for it. And they refurbished that model so no doubt they know them well. My guess is the 2500 and 3000 use the same PTO parts. Very normal in most cases.

From the YM3000 parts manuals, there is a dual clutch in the YM3000R models. Just like some of those ODD JD850/JD950 machines with the dual clutch.

The YM2500R, YM3000R have the same bell housing for the dual clutch setup. Over on the MyTractorForum and on the GreenTractorTalk sites, there are a few threads in the past 2 or 3 years on the dual clutch issues. Either finding the parts or figuring out the right parts.

If the normal clutch was installed, then yes, the PTO will not turn anything attached to it.

When the YM Gray Market machines arrive here, those restoring them repaint and apply the new model decals. All the time the "R" is left off causing troubles just like this.

Posting manuals here is not allowed. However, on the YTOG, you can snag them for free. Ideally you would want all the YM2500, YM3000, TM1192 Deere siblings to sort all of this out. If you are OK to split the tractor and spend about 4 to 6 hours going slow and checking things with the right replacement parts, the machine can be up and running once again.

Maverick may be right but if one of your shift levers is frozen I would suspect that first.
