I have been trying to find a replacement fuel shutoff valve that screws into the bottom of the tank but keep failing. When you search all the typical parts sources it doesn't seem too difficult, aftermarket number 181076 seems to replace every cut off valve ford ever used except this tractor even though they list it as being the replacement for the Ford oem number. The problem is that valve is 1/2" NPT but mine is bigger. Everything else about it is correct. Does anyone by chance know where I can find the correct replacement valve?

I've been buying parts from Reliable since Tom was selling on E-Bay. Never had a problem and the parts arrived when stated. That's about how long it has taken me to restore my 1986 Ford 3910.

1/2" NPT thread OD is .840 or just under 7/8" with a 14 pitch. If your tank is larger than that, someone drilled it out. The part shown in the Reliable link above is the correct "stock" part.

If your tank has been drilled and retaped, you're on your own. Aftermarket tanks are available.

I sure appreciate you guys helping me, I think you have got me on the right track. So I hit up my fitting bin in my parts department and got a couple 1/2" pipe fittings and put the caliper on them. The outside dimension at the narrow end of the taper is about .650 which is the same as the replacement valve I ordered, 181076. I grabbed a couple 3/4" pipe fittings and measured the .840". I think the one Peter linked to is the correct one. I was struggling to find a site that gave those correct dimensions. When I looked it up on New Holland parts look up the number crossed to this 1/2" valve I already ordered and know is incorrect. It's almost as if every aftermarket site is just saying it's a one size fits all and they're all 1/2" npt.

Tinhack, I sure thought about the tank having been drilled but luckily I've known this tractor from day one and know it's never had any repairs done that I haven't done myself. I know the original owner and still see him every day. It's a blessing to have that kind of knowledge when dealing with old tractors I have learned.

I can't thank you guys enough for your help. The part number 181076 that everyone sells as 1/2" pipe is actually 3/8" pipe. I had some confusion myself there. It's od is .68. I hope if anyone else runs into this they find this post. I ordered the one linked above.

@Str8 6 and @Tinhack I've enjoyed and learned from the back and forth on here.

Would you advise a person to buy a Ford 3910 for brush hogging? Found a 2600 hour, two wheel drive that appears to be in good shape.

No front loader, which is actually a plus for me as I really only want it for brush hogging anyway.

Will you fellas give your opinion on the tractor and also an estimate of what I should offer?

I can't answer for anyone else, but I sure like my 1986 3910 for cutting. I have a six-foot rotary mower and a six-foot flail mower I use with it. I also have a back blade and tend my driveway with it. It works better and faster than my little dozer (420C).

I bought it at a county auction that used it for mowing back in 2008. It came with a five-foot Ford rotary mower, but it was well used. I'm not sure of the hours since it had no dash at the time. During my restoration, I found the engine was replaced with a 1989 model (6A89A) and had new everything--Injector pump, injectors, starter, power steering pump, water pump and radiator. All I really had to do was some wiring, install a new dash and paint it. I ended up replacing the hood and fenders during the paint process since they were pretty beat up. Oh yeah, I put new tires on it too. It's like a brand-new tractor now. I rarely use the pre-heat (south Texas). This is 2025 and it starts with a flick of the key down to about 40*F.

I ran across the original auction receipt while going through my desk. Including buyer's premium, I paid $2805 for the tractor and $44 for the Ford mower. But that as 2008 dollars. That's $4203 in today's money. 😎
