I noticed a horrible noise coming from my left ( drivers side) knuckle and that oil was leaking pretty good from the top of the knuckle itself.
I tore it down only to find the long rod that runs through the entire assembly, steering rod for lack the actual name of it. looked like a dog chewed on it. :) #44, See schematic below marked INTERAL)
the needle bearings were shot and some of the teeth on the front drive gear, #52 are wore but useable.

I think it should be a fairly easy fix but, what I was wondering is what in the world holds #30 to number #27? ( in the external attachment) and keeps those two cases tight together so the gasket can do its job? The only bolts that connect the two are the 4 small bolts that the steering arm #35 hooks to the lower case #32 and that is it !!! How can I be sure this doesn't come apart again ands am I missing something about this setup? any help???

I know this is a little confusing but it's the best I could do and I don't have a manual ,,,,Yet .

I'm no expert, and the only reason I'm posting is because none of the experts here have posted......yet. They probably will get around to it and give much better details.

I replaced the Knuckle seal on mine, the one between the parts you indicated, and the only bolts I had to take off the ones you pointed out, if I understand your post correctly. I could go into why there is so little holding it but it would be a guess on my part and there are guys on here who know for sure, so I'll let them talk about that. I used my FEL to raise the front end, put jack stands in, and used a floor jack to support the lower knuckle when I took the bolts off.

Before I started I reviewed some previous posts about knuckles on the Forum and talked to Hoye when I ordered the seal. So I'd give them a call if you have trouble with the other parts. If your Knuckle seals aren't in good shape, I'd replace them while you have it apart too.

One thing I noticed when I had mine apart is there was a coating of dirt on the housing so I cleaned that up before I but it back together.

When you start, post some pics:)

Good Luck!!

Please keep posting on your progress. My 2210d is leaking on one side so I think I'll be heading into this adventure soon! Also - I'm a new Yanmar owner and I know the d designates 4 wheel drive. What does the b stand for?

Greg,

I have both sides tore down right now. I am waiting for my dealer to get the parts. I will keep you up dated. As for the "B", I have no idea. I was wondering that myself. I'm sure someone here can answer that though.

B is a later model 2000D that came with guages instead of indicator lights. I think some of the Web sites show it's length is a little different too as well as the side covers are full length. Most of the 2000 parts I've ordered fit, one exception is the steering wheel, which is a fine spline. My seat mounting looks different from the diagrams I've seen for 2000's.

I have a 2000B. They were made one year, 1979. Aside from the instrumentation, Some of the differences I have noticed are increased floorboard and fender coverage, nicer seat with a sliding track, updated fusebox, clutch safety switch, more engine side panel coverage, metal gas tank with chrome fuel cap, metal hood latches, different radiator and overflow bottle. The YM2000 radiator fits, but fan shroud and overflow bottle won't bolt up to it and you have to drain it through that funky little block on the frame. I wasn't aware of the steering wheel but will have to remember that one. As far as I know, the mechanics are the same though. Engine decrompression knob is a different set-up also.

Bruce, does yours have the radiator screen? Mine doesn not and I don't know if I really need one first off and I don't know much about how the original ones I see on here mount/contstucted.

Thanks

Jerry,
Mine has the original screen. It is just a piece of window screen with a metal frame that slips into some brackets on the front of the radiator.

Here's an old post of mine showing the original screen and its mounting clips. (Ignore the wise guys telling me this elderly original-condition Yanmar needs to be restored to look as good as their Refurbs, most of which are even older!) :p
