Hi all,
I have a problem with the fuel gauge on my 2003 404. It is reading empty no matter how much fuel is in it. I have a pigtail coming off the sender if I put a volt meter on the tractor side all I get is .138 mv I'm not sure but I think I should get more than that does anyone know what voltage is supposed to be supplied to the sending unit or how I might trouble shoot this problem.
Thanks

The gauge sending unit is a variable resistor to ground if it is a single wire unit. Remove the sending unit from the tank and connect to an ohmmeter. Move the float back and forth and measure the resistance. If you don't get a reading the sending unit is bad.
Be sure that all connections in the harness are clean and tight.

X2. The voltage you're looking for is at the gauge, not at the tank. The sending unit in the tank is between the gauge and ground.

Thanks for the input. The sending unit has 2 wires coming off of it when I put a ohm meter across those wires I get 45 ohms I have not taken the sending unit out of the tank yet so I cannot say that is the problem at this point I hope so otherwise I think I have to replace the whole instrument panel. Has anyone had a panel go bad? I hope that it is the sending unit since that will be the least expensive to fix.
Thanks again
