2014 Kubota MX5100
We're building a house on 50+ acres so I felt I needed a tractor for around the house for mowing, maintaining a gravel drive, and fighting the ever invasive Yaupon. I was thinking about 30-40 hp and started researching on TBN and watching Tractor Mike videos on YouTube. I knew 30-40 was light for 50 acres but my BIL has a 95 hp Kubota across the road which would be available if/when I needed anything bigger.

Then about 2 weeks ago I came across a 2014 Kubota MX5100 4x4 with FEL with 122 Hours. It has an extra set of hydraulics which were used for a grapple (I don't understand everything I know about hydraulics yet :) ). I did some quick price checks and decided to pull the trigger. I paid $20,875 for the tractor and $900 for a Rhino SE6 6' shredder.

Posting to get your thoughts and to put a data point out there for anyone else looking at similar tractors.

If I could find a deal like that on a similar tractor in Wisconsin I'd buy it in a heartbeat:)

Add a Ratchet Rake to the bucket and get to work removing the Yaupon Holly. Time's - a - wasting.

Appreciate the replies. I was thinking root grapple but have been looking at threads and videos on a ratchet rake for the Yaupon.

Forgot to mention it has 6 months of warranty remaining.

HST or gear makes a pretty significant difference in that model.

Also, is that $20,875 the OTD price? or is that sales price then you have to tack on taxes?

Earlier this year, I pulled the trigger on a 2012 MX5100 HST. 4wd, loader, etc. No front or rear hydraulics, but I added them. Tractor had 348hrs. I gave an even $20k OTD....and that was at a dealer and not private party.

I'd say you did just fine either way, but if it is a HST tractor....you got a heck of a deal IMO. I'd have gladly gave an extra $875 for 2 model years newer, and a few hundred hours less. Again, assuming that was an OTD price.

Yep, I'd buy that in a minute, I have no experience with Yaupon or ratchet rake, so no input there, we use a root grapple and tree/stump puller for our stuff.

I'd say it was a good buy. I assume it is an open platform, not a cab tractor?

A dealer that I know once commented that used open platform 50 plus hp tractors are a harder sell than the compact tractors since anyone who runs a tractor full time pretty much wants a cab these days and most home owners don't want something that big.

Open station, can't get a cab on an MX.

Seems to me like a pretty good deal. Bottom line, if dealer made a bit of money, and you feel good about your purchase, it is a good deal. Great machine by the way - I've found the MX is a good mix of not too big, and not too small. I'm at about 80 hours on my 4800 - same tractor, just no turbo and T4, and does everything I need on my place so far. I've only wished for loaded tires or ballast once so far, and that was when picking disc harrow off trailer with FEL. It did it, but back end got a bit light.

Gear tractor, open cab as stated above, loaded R1 tires flipped to give a wider stance. Out-the-door price from an individual. The tractor itself maxed out my 7000# trailer so we'll pick up the shredder this weekend.

I plan to add some kind of canopy and a ratchet rake to start with. I'm still interested in a root grapple to assist with the Yaupon but will see if I need it after using the RR. I was also thinking a grading scraper at some point but the RR may do what I need there as well.
