Challenger MT655E, Massey Ferguson 7495, Challenger MT535B, Krone 4x4 XC baler, Kubota F3680 & ZD331 Ram 5500 Cummins 4x4, IH 7500 4x4 dump truck, Kaufman 35’ tandem 19 ton trailer, John Deere CX-15
I am one of the “lucky” owners of a ‘19 or ‘20 Ram Cummins with the CP-4 pump. If you didn’t already know, these pumps are found in all 3 major brands of truck and across a few different models as well.
As far as I know, Ram was the only manufacturer to offer free replacement of all affected models.

Mine was done on Monday & Tuesday, absolutely free of charge. I have read the replacement cost per truck cost Stellantis about $8,000 per truck! Ram did the right thing for its’ customers.

Truck feels basically the same. Start times are just slightly longer than with the CP-4. Could be air working it’s way out. Interesting that the CP-4 actually developed higher rail/injector pressures than the CP-3.

Read about the whole thing here. Pretty interesting read. Looks like Ford & GM have yet to step up to the plate despite lawsuits.

GM completely abandoned Bosch, went with Denso. Bosch is part of the problem, zero help from them.

Ram is far from perfect, a friend has 2 19 Ram hd with the CP4, but because they are not listed in that, they are Customer Pay.

Maybe they did, but if you read the article, GM stuck customers with failed pumps, so did Ford.
Tell your friend the 2019 Ram is listed to be factory repaired at no cost to him/her/

His is outside the specified models, he has already gone above the dealer to corporate. Not all 2019's are covered.

The blame goes on the EPA/CARB, the CP4 was not designed to run on our ULSD.

The models affected are…

  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 2500 (DJ) – 113,720 units built between October 11th, 2018 to November 13th, 2020.
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 3500 (D2) – 67,586 units built between October 18th, 2018 to November 13th, 2020.
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab (DD) – 11,384 units built between November 29th, 2018 to November 13th, 2020.
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 4500/5500 Chassis Cab (DP) – 29,720 units built between November 29th, 2018 to November 13th, 2020

Well, that sucks. Why would they maroon a few 2019 owners…
But at least Ram covered most trucks.

Recall came about because someone with a lot of brains sued as a safety issue, when it grenades loss of power steering brakes etc. The government got involved case closed. That is how I understand it

I am still a Cummins fan

Some had an issue with fluid overflowing and causing a fire.
