Any of you 2210 owners have the rear tires filled?

My turfs are. I didn't want em at first, but the guy said they don't sell a tractor w/FEL without filled tires. Sounds like BS to me, but safety is safety.

I was going to do this but with the sandy soil at my house the dealer thought compaction might be an issue when I mow. I showed him that I have 4 - 50 pound wheel weights and they let me buy it w/o fluid or the ballast box (I'll also be running either a box blade or back back and am going to mount 5-42 lb weights if I really need to get agressive with the FEL).

The manual says you need 500-700 lbs out back for big lifts, so fluid alone if probably not enough. I noticed with w/o any weight the back is pretty light just with the FEL on the tractor, so ballast is mandatory.

Fluid is a good choice, however, if you do this many people recommend tubes to avoid leaks and corrosion on the inside of the rear wheels.

Most of the dealers I talked to when I was researching tractors told me that they HIGHLY recommended filling the rear tires if you have a tractor with a loader on it. The New Holland guy told me he just drove the tractor up the street to Les Schwab and had them do it right there on the spot and made zero dollars on the transaction. I guess I'd have to agree with the dealers on this one - filled tires are a great way to go.

I should have included in my last post that it's the dealer that is talking me out of filling the rear tires. He said that if i was using the tractor for mowing he don't recomend filling the tires. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Keep it as light as possible for mowing. Keep it as heavy as you need for loader work.

I didn't load my tires. I have a 325 pound box blade that I use in place of a ballast box. I can add as many suitcase weights as I need to get up to 700 pounds +. If you use a loader for heavy work and most of the hours on your tractor, load the tires. If you mow a lot, you have plenty of ballast alternatives that make your tractor more flexible, and easier on your lawn for lighter work.

Just my $ 0.03 worth, adjusted upward for economic conditions. Volume discounts available.

JimD,

Sorry I was confused again. My tractor weighs in at about 2000# plus the loaded tires and FEL, etc and I haven't had any problem with it being too heavy for my lawn but my soil is more rock than sand.

When I bought my JD 2210 my dealer never even approached the subject of filled tires. Before I bought the 2210 I was looking at a Kubota BX2200 and the Kubota dealer assumed that I wanted the tires filled. I installed the 55 lb wheel weights from my Sears 18HP lawn and tractor on my 2210 and like bigpete I will be using a box blade for ballast. Most of the time my tractor will be used for mowing and I did not want the extra weight when my FEL is off the tractor because of some wet spots on my property - sinkholes.
