I have a Deere 455 I'm installing new tires on new rims. I used a Harbor Freight tire changer, removed old & installed new tire. Getting it to make the bead is problem. I tried ratchet strap tire middle but seems worse. I have Ruglide and dish detergent brushed on, then tried rubber and dead blow orange mallet trying to at least get one side on...nada...
I've never tried but heard of I'm thinking lighter fluid in tire & match will work???(?).
Any thoughts...thanks. Last resort I guess I could order inner tubes.
Thanks

I’ve heard of people using starting fluid and a match. I have never done this, and don’t recommend it because it sounds dangerous.

I’d take it to a local tire shop and ask them to do it. They’ll most likely have a bead blaster or something that can provide lots of air very quickly. Something that is hard to do with a regular air compressor.

Ether works, just a squirt, then a match.
(Lighter fluid hasn't got the ummph!)

Woofff! POP!

But if you want to try less violent methods, be sure to remove the valve stem from the Schrader valve, and don't use an air chuck. Just push the air line coupling right on to the open stem.

Some stems are not made for this,

Be sure the compressor is "topped off" . A second set of hands to "lift the skirts" is a good thing also.

A bead blaster can be your best friend;

I'ved use all 4 methods: starting fluid (NOT strait ether), the tank blaster, a corn grease based goop that fills in the gap and then squirts out, and tubes. Tank blaster works OK may need multiple shots to seat both sides. Starting fluid is the most scary but YouTube videos show safest way to do it. Most guys use too much and don't get enough inside the tire carcass to stay (it leaks out the lower bead). The corn grease is a sure thing, but leaves a mess that can leave some 'remains' inside the tire. Next time it's on your hands, tools, changer, the tire, etc.

The 12x12 wheel is the problem because tires, as shipped, look to prefer an 8" bead width. Heat the tires up to soften the sidewalls which will make the air blaster a sure thing. I use my air supply with the schraeder valve guts removed simultaneously with the blaster or goop use.

OK ! So I had an opportunity to mount 2 brand new R-1 type 24x12-12 tires today. They are for a Cushman Turf cart. The bead space to rim opening was more than 1" both sides after mounting them ! I coated the tire beads with 'bead sealer' and used my blast tank. I also had the airline hooked up while i blasted them. Mounted up perfectly, both sides. Left about 10 psi in the tires which I then boosted to 22. If you use one, be sure to aim the exhaust nozzle deep into the tire carcass. If it's pointed directly at the inner rim, you may not be so successful because the air blast will come out the top instead of going into the tire.

That starting fluid spray is the ticket!
The tire to rim gap was 2". I brush painted dish detergent around tire & rim both sides, sprayed some starter fluid inside tire, struck a match and BOOOOOMMM!!! it sealed perfectly! Old tires are cracked, and this second one had like a pint of motor oil inside (?). I'll mount it tomorrow and use starter spray trick.

For mounting tires I have one of those HF clip on chucks with the guts removed so it blows all the time. Seat the bottom bead as best you can, clip the air up to the valveless fill stem, and use both hands to lift the top bead into place. Works most of the time to get beads seated, then put the valve in and fill with a complete chuck.

I tried everything, nothing worked. I was about ready to order the bead sealer when I tried the spray. It just took a few seconds, worked great. The only mistake was I had valve core in stem, so apparently created a vacuum inside tire, making a perfect square box! I quickly filled with air and it's fine. It's mounted on 455 in picture.
