331D Excavator with dead hour/rpm display

Hi,
I have 2001 331D s/n 232511798 that has a dead LCD display. This display only shows hours and RPM. It is a segmented LCD display, but none of the segments are working. The rest of the instrument panel seems to work fine and the machine operates just fine as well. I've taken the instrument panel out and cleaned the contacts on the LCD and its connector (zebra style), but no luck so far.
Any ideas how to get it operating again?

likely has an lcd driver chip somewhere, might be able to just bypass it and put a stand alone one in, if its electronic it will likely be driven from a frequency feed from the alternator. a universal tack which you can program the multiplier could be the go. i just got one for our excavator for the tach function as it didnt have one, iam going to piggyback it on the same signal that goes to the lcd hour meter on the inst display.
