I have had my tractor for 4 years or so, maybe 5. Last year, I started having some blue smoke and it was missing. I changed the fuel filters and it seem to help. I was bush hogging the other afternoon and it started slow (blue smoke and missing) then became a real problem. Any ideas???

Oil smoke and Unburnt diesel smoke are sometimes hard to tell apart are you such of the color. Could be since you had missing problem you may have a bad injector and not burning the fuel correctly. How about your engine oil is it the correct viscosity and is the oil level changing since blue normally does indicates oil issue.
Now if it turns out to be unburnt fuel you might check you engine for a restricted air intake, filter or air pipe. Also check your dump valve on the bottom of the air filter it may be clogged.
Worse cast could be over fueling due to injector pump settings.

Take off the primary filter, then open the fuel shut off to see what kind of flow you have from the fuel tank. If the flow is not good chances are you have a clogged strainer in the tank.

Doing some more research it would seem that a lack of fuel can also cause your symptom of blue smoke so civesnedfield may be more on base than my previous posting.

Well colduffer--update, did you figure out what the problem was yet???
I finally had time to go down and visit my tractor, talk a little trash to it, then take the advice of all of you folks to fix it. :thumbsup: I first cleaned the air intake to ensure that was not the problem.....and it was not. Then I check the flow of fuel and guess what...........that was the problem. I pulled the filter coming out of the fuel tank, and it had a bale of hay stuck in it. It took me about 5 minutes or less to fix the problem. My hat is off to all of you to helped me resolve this issue.

I have had it happen a couple of times. One thing you want to do is not run the machine too long when that happens. A guy up here had that happen and ran it for a while to get it home and lost the injector pump. Lack of fuel also means lack of lubrication in the pump.
