Started in on (one of) my new projects last night. Having a large property, I have recently found much need for spraying. Many applications from weed control on my lawn to insect spray on trees and my house. A couple of years ago I built my own sprayer using one of those 12v diaphragm pumps that I pulled behind my ATV. Needless to say, I was underwhelmed. So this winter I bought a GC2400 with much anticipation of what I could accomplish with that PTO and a roller pump. My metal fab skills and equipment falling far behind my woodworking setup, I decided to scour my local tractor graveyard for at least a 3pt setup to get me started. I was able to locate a seriously beefy 7’ back blade that looked indestructible. I removed the blade from it in hopes of utilizing it for snow removal in the future. I cut the blade holding mechanism off and also removed a front support that would have interfered with switching the pins inside to use on Cat 1 hitch. I had a box of casters I bought at auction years ago so I welded some to the bottom to ease storage and hookup. At this point I have just tacked in the frame to hold the tank. Hoping I get some time soon to keep moving on it. The plan is to have a boom system for spraying the yard and a hose/hand sprayer for trees and such.

I hate to rain on your parade but using the same tank for herbicide and pesticide use is a recipe for disaster:(. Think for a minute. Due you want herbicide residue in your tank, hose and spray boom or wand on your prize apple tree or ornamentals? Almost every nursery will have one tank marked WEEDS ONLY! on it.

Aware of that. Just gonna use that one for broadleaf spray on the yard and ladybug spray on the house. If I decide to use full spectrum spray or spray my fruit trees I will add another tank. Right now it's easier to use small hand tank since my fruit trees are so small.

Guess I did say trees, didn't I. Need to research that. May need new pump as well as tank for that. Tank is easy to clean, pump I would imagine as more difficult.

Don't they have some kind of tank cleaner that neutralizes the chems?

On our nursery, we keep sprayers dedicated for several different uses. 1) Organic teas and fertilizers. 2) Organic herbicides and miticides. 3) Water only. (to mist fresh transplants) 4) Root stimulator. 5) Synthetic herbicides and miticides. 6) Synthetic Groundclear. 7) Synthetic fertilizer. 8) Synthetic fungicides. 9) Organic fungicides. These do make a difference. It is a lot of cleaning, but it does need to be done. Gene "Suncoast Palms"

Over 35 years, I've switched back and forth and only clean with detergent and water, with a good rinse.
Spray roundup, Sevin, brush killer, fertilizer, broadleaf (at different times :D )
Not sayin it wouldn't be better to have dedicated tanks, but they can be cleaned between uses. Just sayin....

Then again, I'm not depending on someone else to do the cleaning. ;)

i have never figured out why 3pt sprayers are so expensive: they seem to be the least complicated thing to put together, an there are so many to look at to get ideas from: i have bought several 50 an up gallon sprayers at auctions, for next to nothing, sometimes the pump works an most it doesn't: but the metal or whatever holder for the tank, an a pump an you just about have it: or just throw a tank on the bed of a small trailer an tow it behind the tractor?? for a hand sprayer, i have used a $3 garden hose nozzle several times: works like a champ.
