Ford would immediately crash and burn if it wasn't for their hype.

I've bought them too, but never again. Their stuff is always overpriced and under proven. Designed just good enough to, maybe, get to the end of the warrantee. Maybe.

The idea that anyone would buy a way overstressed lightweight gas engine thinking it was equal to a diesel for towing and a hot rod for racing, and an economy car for commuting, all in one package, is definitely drinking the cool-aid.

I wish it was true, but time will tell. People will probably flock to the dealers to buy them and do the testing.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying their stock during the crash.

I am not going to defend the new Ford motors since I have not driven one. If my 09 F150 proves to be half the truck my 93 F150 is I will not need to try the new motors because the next line of motors will be out before the 09 wears out. I think my 93 has out lived its warranty by a few miles and a few years. The motor and transmission have never been touched. Heck it has the original alternator. The only real repairs are a new starter, AC compressor, two fuel pumps, and the rear main seal replaced. The old girl continues to live up to its "hype".

Right. Hope it keeps living up

2003 F150, SCrew. KR. 5.4l

2nd rear end, Worn out needs to be fixed when i got the time.
2nd trans. Slipping. Needs rebuild.
Too many to count, tie rods, ball joints etc. in front end.
Several coil packs.
Rear wheel bearings and seals.
Warped exhaust Manifolds and broken studs.Rotten muffler.
RUST! Runningboards, doorbottoms and sills.

All this (plus more im forgetting) on a truck with 150000 Kms.

My 84 F150 with a straight 6, 4 sp. god only knows how many kms now but there were well over 200,000 when i sold it. ODO was broken, it is still on the road. Crank windows, cloth/vinyl bench seat, 1 piece rubber floor... notice i didnt say floor "mats". 1 speaker "stereo" WITH PRESETS!!!!! :D And of course it had redneck air conditioning... those triangular pop out windows in the doors ( best feature ever, why did they ever stop putting them on vehicles?). Its got new boxsides and cab corners now, but mechanically its stock. Cant compare the old, simple bulletproof rigs with todays soccer mom specials.

I had a 78 250 as well. It was a tank. Blew the side out of the 6 in a mud hole. Drove it close to 30mi home. Great trucks. Not now though.

The most beat to crap diesel Toyota Hi-Lux I've ever seen that still ran was the one on UK Top Gear where it was driven down stairs, drowned in the ocean, set on fire, dropped from a crane, and finally rode an imploding building down from the top floor to the ground. After each abuse it started and ran with minimal intervention from a mechanic. It now has a proud place in their studio.

If you want to boil it down to it's purest form, the only NEEDS a person has is; air, water, and food. Everything else is a WANT.

Don't forget shelter!

 If anyone wants to see it, Google "Killing a Hilux" and you should be able to find the clips. It earned its place of honour thats for sure..

 hard to get rid of old reliable. Sometimes new isnt an improvement.

I only wish i was the exception to the rule for my truck.. but im not  A quick search willl turn up many people with the same issues. Ford was useless on the subject when it was still under warranty, denying the rust issues. Trans and rearend were both repaired/replaced under warranty and now are broken again. Too bad i cant go back and argue that it wasnt fixed correctly (or fixed with parts that had the same defect as what they were replacing) and get some satisfaction. This truck was never abused.

A friend has a new Toyota with less than 11,000 miles that got a remanufactured transmission. He was highly upset that the transmission was not new.

Just don't spend money on luxury A and then complain you don't have money for luxury B.

-Rick

Or purchase Luxury A and then complain about no money for your mortgage etc.
