Where is the neutral safety switch on the 4300? I'm almost positive this is the problem, as I've had to jiggle the sync reverser handle while turning the key to start it for about two years now, it finally would'nt start, so I bought a new switch, with the copy of where it should be from John Deere, and I can't find it where it is supposed to be!

Will look in the serv tech manual I have, and see what I can find.
Found the following pic in jdparts.com, shows the switch and part #.
Hope it helps to locate it on the control lever mechanism.

Yes, that is the same page which I got from the dealer. But, it was'nt where it was supposed to be. I followed the linkage all the way from the handle down to the entrance to the tranny, and could not find it or even a wire to jump it, so I could at least start it to see if that was the problem. I called the dealer yesterday, and they said it might be in the tranny.
I don't know if I want to pull the tranny in this weather(teens here today) so it looks like I'm going to have to ask a neighbor to plow me out until I get this fixed.
Thanks,
Bayfield

I went back to the service tech manual, and poked around some more. Appears, to me, that there is a wired safety switch for the synchreverser tranny, but appears also may need a mechanical linkage adjustment where position is important. Maybe the following five attachments will help locate the problem.. Looks like adjustments can be made without going into the tranny.
I'll poke around some more in the wiring schematics for the switch, and maybe on the clutch linkage. ??

The wiring schematic attached implies the switch for the SRT may be on the clutch pedal, circled in red. Also the pic in the 5th attachment of previous post talks of the switch and shows the area around the clutch pedal.
See if this helps.

My 4300 is an HST so don't know if this applies? Its neutral switch is located under the floor board by the forward/reverse pedals on the right side of the tractor. It is engaged/disengaged by linkage to the pedals. Had trouble with it and solved the problem by installing a ban clamp. The thickness of the clamp was just enough to depress the switch.

I just read your post, even though it's cold out, I'm going to poke around and see if I can find it now.
thanks for your time, I will keep you posted

Well, after all this, I had to spend the money and have a service guy from John Deere come out. It was the wire that goes to the starter that had worked it's way off!
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Do you know which wire and can you get a pic of it to show where it came off? Would be appreciated.

Hmmm ok I have been reading this because I think my neutral switch just went out. I have had to "rotate" the forward /reverse handle to get the starter to engage, now nothing. I did not see that the actual location of the switch was ever found... am I missing something?
