anyone know the thickness of the weld on cutting edge for a 7308 FEL ? Today i was looking at my cutting edge and its getting worn down. Looked online at them and a 60 inch (which is what i need) is about $30 than the 68 inch. Why? Anyway was wondering why i couldn't just buy the 68 inch and cut it down to fit or is there a reason i couldn't do this? Or could i just go to a steel shop and buy a 60 inch piece of flat bar and weld it on? would that work or would that metal be to soft? well thanks for any help or replies guys.

You should be able to pick up or order cutting edge from steel suppliers,farm supply outlets, firms like Catapillar etc.
It comes in different width/thickness/length. It is not ordinary flat bar stock but steel that is formulated to be tough and wear resitant. Cutting torch will cut it.:thumbsup:

What was the total cost? (cost of materials and labor) You might be able to buy a reversible bolt-on edge and just have your cutting edge drilled to fit. It would depend on the difference in cost. Messicks.com has a reversible bolt-on edge for $210. It's part number is 716426016. If your bucket is pre-drilled, it's an easy install with flat-head sweep bolts.
I think what you saw was a typo for the prices of the weld-on egdes. I believe they got the 60" and 68" prices reversed. As you say, it does not make sense for the 68" to be $30 cheaper.
