Oil & Fuel 80 weight oil instead of UDT? do you use it?

Hey guys, new guy here, not new to tractors just new to Kabota's and diesels. Anyway, I've read all the info on using UDT or its generic (134) but I'm wondering why on my tractor, near the fill hole for the trans fluid it calls out 80 weight oil. It also says in the manual I can use either. So... how many of you use 80 weight instead of UDT? and why? Thanks, Randy B in northeastern Maryland

I can't realy help with your problem as I don't know what model you have. Years ago they did use gear oil in the gear drives. The hydro's won't use it.

Art... Stupid me, I thought I mentioned the model #, anyway I have a B7100 built in 1985. It is not a hydrstatic. I suspect that prior to the HST models coming out, they all used gear oil.

My L3400 manual lists either. I have never checked to see what is in it. I had the dealer do the 50 hour but I'll do the rest of them. The front axle calls for 400 hour change.

My JD came with 80 in the front axle. That is the only oil listed in the manual for the JD.

I'm thinking in my climate I'd use the 80. If I lived where it got real cold I'd use UDT.

I'd think you would still want UDT, as the hydraulic pump draws from the transmission case. 80wt just sounds awful heavy to me.

I was thinking front axle here. The transmission should probably be UDT.

I stressed over it a long time on my L3400 and just ended up putting SUDT in it.

No worries as far as I'm concerned..
