I have a ford 821 (1961) that I am rebuilding the power steering pump (EATON Roller vane type). It had a broken pump flow control spring. I can not figure out how to get the spring and balls out of the flow control valve assembly (86534520) . Is there a snap ring that holds them in the valve assembly ?

Looking at the parts book I cannot see anything that should prevent the valve from coming out once you remove the hex plug.

Follow this link, you will find a service manual for the P/S unit that should answer all your questions.

Did you try a strong little magnet?

John, do you know where I can get parts or maybe even an entire pump of the power steering pump in your picture?

I would start looking with Just8ns.com or dennis-carpenter.com, if you can get in touch with Derick at just8ns he is a real good source of information and might be able to point in a direction to find one.
