A bit of progress. Putting the YM240D to work

Does anyone know what that number is for either the YM240(D) OR the YM2000(D)?

Sorry Wooly - I don't have the brochure for the 240 but here are the spec's for the brochures I do have that are close to yours:

YM 169: 300 lbs 24 inches behind lower link point. 500 lbs at lower link point
YM 180/187: 816 lbs 24 inches behind lower link point. 1036 lbs at lower link point
YM 220/226 - 1168 lbs
YM 276 - 1433 lbs
YM 336 - 2116 lbs

Parts manual says 240 lift capacity is 1430lbs. I assume that is at the pins.

I can't find a weight for this cutter either. What I could find on the Woods site for new 5' cutters is they range from about 450-600lbs. With that weight hanging 3 or more feet off the back of the tractor, I can see 150# making a difference between lifting and not lifting. Because [FONT=Arial, CalibriVerdana, Geneva, sans-serif]duanew1 was having success with his I figured my 240 should as well. Tractordata.com says YM2001 weights about 2039lbs. The info I have on my YM240D says it weights about 1960lbs (without loader). I'd venture that with a loader my YM240 weighs something over 2400lbs. So, in terms of tractor weight/counterbalance I don't think there should be any problem.

What I can't find is what the 3PT SHOULD be able to lift. Does anyone know what that number is for either the YM240(D) OR the YM2000(D)?

I was thinking i saw something like 1000= pounds at end of lift arms. I will look at my repair manual which has specs when i get home. its for a 240

I beleive your right Winston. 1400 seems to be the number that sticks in my head that i remember. i was not sure so i did not post that. My point was that i know that bush hog he has is not over 1000 so it should easily lift it. And it is at the pins.

Thanks. I'm not smart enough to figure out if a 500lbs brush hog sticking out the beyond the pins should be liftable by something with 1430lbs of lift at the pins. 1400 lbs of lift doesn't sound trivial and since clemsonfor and duanew1 both seem to lift similar sized objects, my guess is that it should. So either my cutter is much bigger/heavier than expected or there's something not right with my lift- or maybe both.

It looks like the YM240 falls in somewhere between the 220 and the 276 depending on where these different measurements are taken.

One thing i did think of is that when i first got my tractor, the valve had a problem and was allowing too much fluid to bypass or something causing the fluid to bypass constantly or something and overheat. I greatly lost lift power while running and if could not hold mower up while mowing well and it was very slow to lift. They told me to fix it to put 90 weight in it and replaced the valve. I told them that was not right and the valve was the problem. that was the problem and its never returned. I am wondering if you have the correct fluid or is it still the correct viscosity? I wonder since your more up north if somebody put something like AW15 or 22 in there?

I've changed out the hydraulic fluid with fresh JD303 and cleaned the hydraulic filter. Is there a different reservoir/fluid used for the rear lift? I just assumed all the hydraulics ran off the same reservoir.

You are correct.

I am not to intelligent. Someone with smarts please tell me if a 500lbs mower hanging off the back of a 3 point is actually putting 500lbs on the hitch or is it more. Help an old man understand. :confused2: Seems like the unbalanced teeter todder theory ought to come in play somewhere here???

Ok I looked it up in my Yanmar factory service manual for a YM240. " lifting capacity at tip of lower link ...more than 1430lbs."

Also noted releife valve pressure " 2200psu and replacement limit 2130-2270psi
