Raccoons are climbers! Here you can see them getting up on my table that is 49" off the ground! I build the feeding table figuring that the 16" horizontal upside down run would stop them ... Nope!

I ended up wrapping the base with hardware cloth, and hooked the ground wire to a electric fence charger to it ... Then strung 4 loops of 11,500 volt wire around it!

Mine has two flaps, a 20 mph wind will open both flaps ... Don't have a wife!

I'm not worried really about other critters getting in, other than the play toys my cats force beyond there will to come inside!

No cats allowed in-doors at my place but dang this staffy bulldog of mine used to drags the craziest things into the house. We have had skunks, porcupines, raccoons, snakes, squirrels, rabbits, and critters so badly "played with" we couldn't identify. We have long since permanently sealed the door shut as we simply not going to put up with the unintended carcasses.

I'm gonna try to train them to leave them outside ... I'm usually pretty good with getting through to critters ... But I'm new to cats ...

Raccoons can't jump very high.

The platform we use is basically a board attached directly to the outer wall. They would have to climb straight up metal siding.

Metal siding should stop them ... 10K+ volts WILL stop them!

But now my only problem (until a new one pops up!) is to get the kitties to leave the fresh caught dead or alive critters outside ...

Glad to see you're coming on board with cats. I've had them since the day I was brought home from the hospital. My wife was never a cat person until we got a kitten that wouldn't leave her alone. She bonded with it and that was that.

I bet it seems like a great idea till a skunk walks in

We call them our "black and white" kitties. Every once in a while they raid the cat food in the garage. Fingers crossed, but so far there haven't been any accidents. But they are the reason why the feline buffet is only open during daylight hours.

All the best,

Peter
