I have irrefutable evidence that we, as a country, have achieved the point of absurdity in our litigious society.
Yesterday, I purchased a new gas-powered grass trimmer/weed cutter. Coming along with it, at who knows how much additional cost, were 200 pages worth of manuals and statements. 95 pages were in English, 95 pages in Spanish and 10 pages in French.
The Operator's Manual was 64 pages, half in English and half in Spanish. The 112 page Safety Manual, was again, half and half. The Limited Warranty Statement is 18 pages, 5 English, 6 Spanish and 7 French??? Guess it takes more words to say it in French?
The kicker, to me, was the 6 page California Tier III Emission Control Safety Manual, in all three languages. Marked in small print on the outside of the packing box are the words "Not to be sold in California" .
Who do we tell, "Enough is enough, already."

The not for sale in Calif is driven by Kalifornia's emission requirements and not your personal safety. I forget what the other Kalifornia specific statement is, but its something like this product contains a chemical or substance known to cause reproductive harm.

I'd rather have a manual that tells me what the specific part numbers are and how to maintain the product.

I am simply told that "This the way Toyota does it". If I protest I am then told that I am " Unable to think outside of the box." I come home and shovel a little horse poop and read about all the good things happening for the Mexicans. But I can still vote.

I made a product that contained some brass parts. One of my customers whom sold to dealers in Kalifornia needed to have the "lead statement" on my package (due to their being a small amount of lead in the brass...unless its naval brass).

I tried not to sell to Kalifornia customers.....but I was told that was illegal and I could not exclude Kalifornians..... :confused2: .....and I could be sued if I refused to sell to the peoples republic of Kalifornia. So....I was forced to put the warning on the package.

I don't know why anyone would ingest brass from a firearm tool....but that's what the fuss was about. I wanted to choke those who make such absurd laws.

Crazy isn't it? I've noticed all this myself. Usually I don't read them unless something goes wrong or when assembling I've got too many bolts left over!:D The last piece of equipment I got I went through and found where the English version ended and tore the rest off and DISCARDED it. Actually it made good fire starter! Took that part and stuck it in a coffee can half full of diesel for starting brush piles. Of course they couldn't do that in Kali either! Sorry, I don't know any other languages to translate this into!

I predict it's going to take a full generation (maybe more) until the people in power realize that there is risk to trying to avoid all risk. The day will have to come that those who are willing to take some personal responsibility for their health and safety are powerful enough to require those who are willing to be responsible to own their own foolishness.

Either that or the lawyers run out of people to sue and litigate each other into extinction.

just got a rototiller, couldn't stop laughing at all the BS in the book. Between the stupid warnings{like don't stick hand in auger while rotating} and the rest of the BS I figured they were trying to write a novel.

There's an idea!

Kind of like having to put "HOT" on the outside of a coffee cup!:confused2:

The French parts have fewer pages because they give up way sooner than everybody else.
