Advantages to buying a used tractor.

You can blame all dings and scratches on the previous owner too. I bought my 6415 used from a dealer, only saw photos. They did make sure not to show the missing arm rest and cracked hood vent in any of the photos, so it is buyer beware in buying used. I also have one oil leak to chase down and fix.

.

A question I do have is .......... are the sliding stabilizers an optional item that can be purchased because I'd sure like to have them on the smaller tractor. They are much better than the turnbuckle types.

Yes, You can buy the sliding stabilizers and put them on a different tractor. You can order them from a NH or LS dealer.

Pat's Easy Change would.

The jury's still out on if I build a pair of quick connect ends. If I have different width bottom pins the angles are off on Pats and I need tools to change that. I'm not overly impressed with his design - it's a compromise in 3 directions.

and if you are not afraid of doing mechanical repairs- and just plain Cheap ( includes me) You can have 2 or more tractors of different sizes for less than one new machine... different strokes for different folks...:)

Downtime and space are reasons to go with newer or less used equipment. I also wouldn't have been able to get the financing I did outside a dealer. JD financial was VERY reasonable - my bank would've required I got a more expensive car to get close to the rate I got on my tractor, and cars depreciate faster yet.

The advantage for me is I get to buy it new, put my 150 to 300 hours on it in 5 to 10 years, and then sell it for almost what I paid for it. No down side I can see.

The thing about buying new is the anticipated warranty cost are factored into the sale price.
Buying a two year old tractor with a few hours on it can save more than the warranty cost factored into the sales price.
Add the depreciation for taking it off the lot and that is a lot of money in your pocket.

These two are related: Getting a pre tier-4 engine would seem to be an advantage as that adds complexity, cost, and reduces useable power on new diesel engines. I also like the American-made power plants you could get in largest JD CUT's a few years ago. Back in 2005 when I bought new, there were far less compelling reasons to buy used.

I see it EXACTLY the same way as you!
More than one (used) tractor!
and .....No tractor payments!

Alternatively, you could by a used tractor for half the price, put 150 to 300 hours on it in 5 to 10 years, then sell it for almost what you paid for it - all that time tying up only half the capital (compared to buying new) and putting the other half to work some place else.
