Am I missing something? SUDT vs SUDT2 dealer availability

When I picked up my new tractor the dealer told me it had SUDT2 in it for the hydraulic fluid. I got a couple of gallon to go as I figured when I put the grapple on it would require some additional fluid, which it did.

This week I stopped by the local dealer to pick up some to replace what I had used. The parts person said they did not carry any SUDT2 just SUDT. I asked why and she did not know, referred me to the shop manager. Shop manager told me it is what they give him to work with and did not really elaborate on it.

Yesterday I was by another dealership and stopped and asked about SUDT2. They had some, but they only had 3 one gallon containers and had lots of SUDT. The SUDT2 containers were dusty and had obviously been there a while. I asked if they were getting more SUDT2 in or were only going to carry the SUDT. Pretty much got a shrug without an answer.

As far as I have see non here the SUDT2 is the newest version of the Kubota hydraulic fluid and it seems to be priced about the same. Why would a dealer not carry it? What am I missing here?

Yep, I already read that. It does not give a clear answer on why the dealerships would carry the SUDT and not carry SUDT2. Also read about everything I could find on here about the two versions going back several years. It would not surprise me if they carried the SUDT2 and not SUDT.

Just trying to figure out their reasoning as they do not seem to want to share it.

I'd say the SUDT2 would benefit northern tractors the most due to the colder weather. Could be your TX dealers didn't notice improved performance and are sticking with SUDT for cost savings.

We stock UDT for gear drive tractors and SUDT2 for hydrostatic and GST tractors. We don’t stock SUDT and I am under the impression that oil has been obsoleted but I may have that wrong.

Maybe those dealers are working on their old stock of SUDT.

The SUDT was nice clean shiny jugs. The SUDT2 was dusty and looked like they had been there a while. Who knows.

Its probably about the money. Just a guess. SUDT2 user here. Have had to get the local dealer here in my part of Oklahoma to order it once or twice so as to keep my “stock” available in the shed for when its needed. Supposedly you can mix them if you need to. Just hate to do so.

My Kubota dealer in Hot Springs, Ark. also does not recommend SUDT2. He says that it is only needed for colder climates and has no additional benefits for our rather mild climate. I did my first oil change with Kubota oil but since have just used premium hydraulic fluid that claims (it is listed on the can but may or may not be true, you know how oil companies sometimes lie) to meet the Kubota requirements. So far in 9 years of ownership and using generic hydraulic oil, I haven't had any issues. I didn't notice any increase in whine when I went to the Atwoods brand of premium fluid either.
