All the cutters are welded and "made" in the usa (Except Deere and maybe BEFCO) but all of them use imported parts including gearboxes that come from China. Trying to buy a 100% USA made cutter is like trying to buy a all USA made camera or TV. I think the BEFCO cutters are made in Italy and might have Euro gearboxes on them and folks say the Brown 600 series cutters have USA made gearboxes but I sorta doubt it. Folks read "Omni gearbox Texas" and don't realise they are just the importer of gearboxes made in China. If China couldn't make a good gearbox we would all be in 10 foot tall ragweeds by July. Its not a quality issue. The reason I point it out is that some manufacturers mislead the public as to the extent of how much of their product is actually made in USA. Sears craftsman tools and the Leatherman tools both had to pay fines I think over the issue. I think John Deere is misleading in much of what their salesmen say compared where their products are actually made.
In a related occurance Leupold ,the rifle scope maker, advertised extensively that their scopes were "made right, made here" but shortly after that ad blitz they started to import so many of the lenses, parts and tubes from asia they had to change the made in usa on the side of the turrent to "lifetime guarantee". To this day you can talk to shooters and they will swear the scopes are made in usa basically due to the large advertising buys Leupold made years ago just before they went overseas for much of their manufacturing process. Companies know that made in USA helps and they try to muddy the water as best they can in my opinion.
