Any one have any experience with the pocket garden house you see advertised. My wife waters her flowers a lot and has over 100' of hose to drag. I wonder how the pocket hose would work.

I had a couple at my past house and worked well, Moved to a new house and immediately blew out 2. My new house has 140PSI in the water line. Those expandable hoses will blow out if pressure is above 50PSI. The box stores and hardware stores sell a gauge that screws onto a hose nozzle for less than $10. My house has a pressure regulator but it still builds up to 140PSI if water not flowing. Possibly someone made a heaver duty one by now - check the specs on them for PSI. A lot of them do not give the PSI on their ads and only on the package.

I've owned two of the 50' ones. Bought one for watering plants and flowers around the house. It worked well during the season, but developed several pinholes early the next spring. I got another one and it also worked well during the summer but the next spring it split down the length of almost the whole hose.
I figure they're good for one year and they're not too expensive, but I don't like replacing stuff so quickly. I've been using commercial garden hoses ever since.

We sprung for one (pun intended). It's piled up next to the garbage can. I will say though - they sure have a commercial that make one want to jump up and buy a couple.

I had a 50' one - laid out in the summer sun, under 50 lb pressure and ruptured like an over ripe banana. It "compressed" nicely and fit well in the garbage can. They may have heavier ones now - I'll just continue to use the HD commercial rubber hoses.

Before I had county water I had a well with a 1 gpm refresh rate. When one of those hoses ruptures, it can empty a well like that pretty quickly.

I must have a thousand feet of garden hose. My Mom bought me one of those pocket hoses. Like I need another hose! I keep it around in case I need a hose in the winter when all my hoses are blown out and put away.

We had one. The dog liked how it recoiled after she pulled on it. Did not last long.

They pretty much suck

Wow! 140 psi? I thought my water pressure was high at 100 psi, and after I had the city water guy verify that my gauge is right, I just leave it there, but do have a couple of non-adjustable regulators that are primarily sold for RVs that I sometimes use to protect soaker hoses. And when we lived in a "manufacturer" home in the country and had over 100 psi, I put an adjustable regulator in the line to the house set at 50 psi.

But for garden hoses I now have 3 of the Gilmour Flexogen 8 ply 500 psi 5/8 diameter, kink resistant lifetime guaranteed hoses from Home Depot.

They're thick and heavy but I have each of them on a hose reel, they stay outside in the weather year round, and after 3 years they still seem just like new.

It is the water companies burden to maintain a safe water pressure. Anything over 80 can cause you lots of problems. Mine was 120. Called the Rural Water Company and they put in a regulator and asked me where I wanted it set. My outside hydrant is rated for 80 psi so I had them set it for 75. I also have a regulator inside the house to bring it down even further. The high pressure can ruin water heaters, refrigerators etc.

Country Geek - my well is a HUGE spring that will produce over 250 GPM - if you have the pump for it. I just have a 3/4 horse submersible but when the "pocket hose " ruptured it dam near washed everything away. I went out in the yard and there was 2" of water everywhere. I'm sure it gave the 'ol submersible a good work out.

You're lucky. Most places the property owner is responsible for anyghint after the meter. Our town built a new reservoir on the canyon rim. Town is in the valley below. They blew fixtures all over town and the complainers were told "sorry, put in a regulator".

I've had a couple of these. They are really handy and convenient. Unfortunately, neither lasted a full summer. So I don't have one now.

We had two, lasted about a year before they blew out

I had one. When I'd open the spray nozzle at the end of it, it would release so much pressure from the hose that it would contract. Close the nozzle it extended again. I know that's from low flow, buy I didn't want full flow. It was a novelty that has long been discarded.

We had a couple.. I disagree about them sucking. They blow... when you least want them to. They worked fine when they were new, but both blew up in a a few months. I have regular hoses that are decades old and still working. These things are a very short time affair. YMMV
