Was doing some of the 300hr service on the the BX last night. Book says the cap. of the front axle is 5 quarts. Drained both sides of the axle and waited until it had pretty much quit dripping. I put the plugs back in and poured in about 2 quarts in the right side and then was pouring the rest of a one gallon jug in the left side. I had about 3 1/2 quarts in it when I notice an oil slick forming on the floor at the right side. I was doing this fairly close to the floor drain so the right side was about 1/2" lower or so. I took the turkey baister and sucked about a quart out to get to the full level. I figure I lost about a pint on the floor so it held only about 2 1/2 quarts. I'll check it again before I use it and it's now setting on the level. I've noticed other discrepencys. I believe the crankcase holds more than the book says. I don't remember about the transmission but I need to change that next and prefer not to waste more SUDT. Does anyone know the actual capacities of the BX?

It will probably say the same thing as your manual, but you can check at http://www.kubota.com

Click on the "parts' tab; then it will ask you to specify your tractor. Once you do that, it will come back with a long list of specifications and replacement part numbers and the like.

Thanks for the info. Wonder why I only got about 2 1/2 back in. I guess for some reason I didn't it all drained.

There is some oil that just won't drain out because it is held in captivity by some low points in the outer spindles. Check the oil level after you have run it for a few hours. Last summer, I found that my tractor was blowing some SUDT out of the transmission breather. It was a very hot day and I was working the machine hard. I know that it wasn't overfilled, since this was the first time that it had happened in more than 2 years. Oil will expand when it gets hot. When it gets really hot, then it will expand to the point that the relief valve/breather will open to vent out the pressure. Dusty

Take my experience for what it's worth: Filled it, worked it, checked it ... 2-3 times. Looked good to go. Checked it a couple months later ... took at least a quart more :( (Unless I dumped fluid in the field, I believe it has no leaks because I park it on clean concrete and see none).
