Anyone own an M5400?

I'm looking at a used M5400 this week. It's a 1998, 3300 hrs.

What's the good/bad/ugly on these units?

I was hoping to find something newer in hopes that I'd have less maintenance problems, but most newer machines are out of my price point.

I did look the model up online, and these machines do sell for a pretty penny. This one would appear to be a good deal.

Don't own one, but they are a solid tractor. Dry clutch and center shift, basic machine.

Most would be 4x4 and loader around here.

I have the same engine in a L5450 but less hours. Very good engine. I also have a power shuttle transmission.

We have one on our farm, only issue has been few hoses that got old from sun and needed replacing. Near bullet proof tractor very simple but well built. Wish they still built them like that.

My '99 M5400 is 4x4 with a loader. 2000 hours. Solid tractor.

I'm only familiar with old Ford's and Massey's.

Check front axle pivot for cracks,welds or leaks. Make sure pto starts and stops. Make sure the loader bolts are tight and not showing signs of being loose. Check for blow by once its warmed up if you dont know how to do this bring someone who does.
