Got a job coming up 80 acres of clear cut, was a pine plantation. The stumps are space out 8'x8' range from 14-16" dia. Customer wants the stumps below grde. Trying to decide if i should get a stump grinder for my rayco or just take the sids off an get some single carbide tip teeth an just sink the head in the ground.

I have got a stump grinder for my 140 and it works so good that a 20ton excavator wouldn't keep up it.One job I ground 120 pine stumps in 6hrs,far quicker than using a mulcher and less teeth to wear.

We rent one from time to time for our T320. Works great, so I would imagine that on a 140 it would be awesome as stated.

Keep in mind if you have never ran a stump grinder before.... pine stumps are harder to grind with a stump grinder than hardwood. Can't explain it, but I learned the hard way. Priced a job grinding a ton of stumps, all pine. Thought it would be a breeze and would go twice as fast as hardwoods.

Tonyoz,

How would u price the job by the sump, hour or acre if i got the stump grinder?
I'm thinkin by hour or acre wat would be a far price, sins u own one knowing the upkeep an all? Also how long do u think it would take to grinder one 16" pine stump? (so i can get a ball park figure on how long it will take me, keep in mind the trees were cut bout 1.5 months ago)

Anyone Know someone who got a used Rayco stump grinder fro the 140? Called Friday Rayco wants close to 25,000.00 for one, That will cut into my profits a good bit!!!!

Run the first job at a hourly rate or until you get the hang of using the grinder. How far down dose your client want the stumps ground? just below ground level or rootballs out. How high are the stump above the ground?
PS Don't expect to pay for the grinder in one job:D

Tonyoz,

The customer wants the stumps ground 6-8 in. below grade. The tallest stumps 12-14" tall. Hopefully with 80 acres the grinder will be paid for an then some, Hopefully!!!

I recon about 1-1.5 min per stump including travel time between the stumps.
Just a guess thou as I haven't seen the job.A tip;do the stump grinding before any mulching if possible.
