Anyone replace a starter??

My '02 6000 is acting like the starter is getting "weak"..ie. won't turn the engine over fast enough (when cold start) to fire it up..the battery is new and the alternator is putting out 14 volts. Once its started, it will restart..but has anyone had a starter refreshed at an auto electric place? Bobg in Va

Go to ebay type in engine starter there is a list of over 30 thousand
For years wondered why manufactures don't make a common type starter instead of only for one model.
Buying parts anymore is hard to locate a certain type #model designed for only one brand and Sears always has the weakest part only they carry.

We do not see bad starters generally, Are you sure its not a bad connection, check/clean connections at both ends. I have seen a slow crank and been the conection where the ground cable connects to the chasis.

this. check/clean and tighten both ends of both cables.

I am not familiar with a Mahindra but I have re-worked starters on cars, trucks and tractors. If you are sure the battery and cables are not at fault it it pretty easy to clean, lubricate and if necessary replace the brushes in a starter. That will probably return it to good service. If it has a solenoid attached to it, take it apart and clean the internal contacts; on some you can turn a disk over to get a clean contact surface. If not, just polish the contacts. If the tractor has a remote contactor, they are pretty cheap to replace.

Folks, this ain't my first rodeo...have replaced all cables....have moved the neg. to one of the starter's mounting bolts (original ground didn't look strong enough)....have cleaned the solinoid...it works great. I guess if I can get a new starter for the price to rebuild this one...I might go ahead and do that...thanks for all the replies. BobG in VA

BobG After several checks and 1 repair of starter for a Kholar command pro 13 decided to purchase new. The old was (used to be called Dragging) upon taking apart found 1 brush spring had been attached to magnet field since it repaired then after cleaning the magnet saw it was cracked and had been for long time. also the front bearing instead of brass was metal and egg shaped where it had wore until armature had started to touch field magnets.
Local parts place unable to locate parts and new price was 70 + into 100 bucks for replacement .On line ebay found what was needed and priced at 49.14 with free shipment paid arrived also 3 days early.
check your model and starter part # then contact E-Auto Parts Wholesale.

Just a final update...I found the correct starter for my 6000 on _Bay...looked around and found the website for "Complete Tractor". They're in Tenn. I called, placed the order, it was UPS'd to me in just 2 days...exact unit for the tractor...I replaced the unit yesterday (95degrees and complimentary humidity for central VA...whew...). That tractor starts faster now than when it did brand new!...Soooo, if you folks out there need any parts for your tractors I highly recommend Complete Tractor.. (it may not be Kosher to highlight them, but I couldn't resist...BobG in VA
