anyone using a WoodMaxx blower??

To not disturb my driveway gravel (crushed concrete actually) I installed a 1.5" inch pipe along the cutting edge. The pipe was purchased from Lowes and I removed a 1/2 strip from the pipe and welded on some tabs for the bolts. It came out pretty good I think.

I also dropped down the skids one notch, which is as far as you can adjust them and still have them secured with two bolts.

Finally, here's a video clip at full PTO speed. I recorded footage with the PTO shaft at both horizontal and lowered positions. In the lowered position you may be able to detect the plastic PTO guard rubbing on the U-bolt yoke, but I'm not bothered by that. There is also some footage of the hydraulic chute and deflector in action.

One observation, when the SB72 is lowered, the lift arms ride pretty low (8 or 9 inches). On my Yanmar LX I had to adjust the pins holding up the lift arms to their lowest position to even get the snowblower edge to touch the ground. Note - My LX has the taller Ag tires, a model with R4 tires may be able to use either pin position.

In any event, it all seems to fit and match up to my needs and I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Sorry to hear about the outsourcing.. never easy.

Thanks for posting the video - mine sounds the same and yes, the 3PT arms are very low - the B21 is 22" to the center of the PTO and the SB60 is 13.5" to PTO center.

I have also played with the skids - bought some UHMW - just arrived today that I am heat forming onto the skid shoes. I either on pavement or on grass - no gravel. So that's why I got the UHMW to bolt on $30 for 6 - 3/8' 4x8" replaceable shoes which will raise the cutting edge 3/8".

But I like the pipe idea even better the way you split it and attached Then lowering the shoes - do you want to make another one - 60"? I am in the market for one..

Also if you are looking in the IT field PM me the field/area you're in - I'm in manufacturing software covering the east coast and Canada.

Thank you Carl, well as it so happens, I do have 49 inches of leftover 1.5" pipe, so maybe we can work something out.

I will be looking for a job come April. Presently I'm a UNIX/Linux systems admin. On the plus side, this outsourcing gives me the opportunity to look at other places and pursue other interests. I've been at the same shop for 16 years, it's been a good run. I'll PM you more details.

Oh yeah, true to their word, my printed Woodmaxx manual arrived in the mail yesterday. I do like how they are illustrated, much better then any other attachment brand I've seen so far.

I got my skid shoes on today and that will keep the steel cutting edge off the driveway. Tried heating them in boiling water to form them but a propane torch was the most effective.

Katahdin, that 49" piece would work great on my 60" unit - would leave 3" on either side - sent you a PM on that.

Carl

I know the web site states these blowers are Quick Hitch compatible...anyone using one with a quick hitch?

   / anyone using a WoodMaxx blower?? #57
No I am not but if you look at Katahdin's picture of the 3PT there is clearance in the top pin and also the bottom pins you can connect between or the pin is extended to connect on the outside.

Actually, the woodmax is made in China. I called them and asked. I'm trying to decide between the Braber from Northern Tool or the Woodmax. I was told the Woodmax has no shearpin protecting the auger whereas the Braber does.

Per the manual, the Woodmaxx does have a shear pin to protect the auger as well as a shear pin for the PTO drive shaft.
Both are Grade 2 from the factory, BTW

Yep, I can confirm both the PTO shaft and Auger have shear pins and it comes with spares.

Still waiting for snow in southern Maine tho! :)

Between you getting the blower and me getting a new plow/plow truck... maybe this will be the winter that it doesn't snow here. :)
