Apparently Eddie Walker is right on!

News today is the US Department of Agriculture is predicting a steep rise in supermarket food costs, in particular all forms of meat, due to the record high prices of corn and soybeans now which now are being farmed and turned into transportation fuels instead of food for livestock.....there is a shortage of animal feeds as well as poulty, beef, pork, eggs, etc. looming in a BIG way soon as prices for consumers for food items will be rising way higher than the prices of gasoline and diesel have.....

PETA and the wackos are jumping for joy as square mile after square mile of tropical rainforests are nowbeing slash burned and bulldozed over for soybean biodiesel fuel and ethanol fuel as a result of the current Federal Tarriff exemptions mentioned in the Wall Street Journal today which allows for the UNTAXED importation of these items into the USA.....

It doesn't get much more messed up than this?#$%&^*()

Most of us are over weight, so some calorie restriction could do us some good, as well as prolong our lives longer to enjoy some more tractor seat time....:p

To me the real point of info such as posted by Eddie and SkyPup is that there ARE significant and serious consequences to shifts in policy or practice that are often not understood nor foreseen. I have to believe some of the same people who yelled and screamed about alternative energy sources as gas prices rose will now yell and scream as food, particularly meat, prices go up. There is no magic bullet, there are always unintended consequences.

Our energy resources are being depleted because every time the Cow jumps over the Moon she leaves a deposit!:D

This is not a joke, but that cow is a troublemaker. It might not be long till the government will demand the farmers control their cows and stop them from making poluting gas. Heck, cows have been using ponds here for swimming in summer and I have heard the government might ban them from swimming. There might come a time when cows will have to be diapered.

I have heard the digestive tracts of termites produce CO2 and methane gas close to = the amount produced from all the burning of fossil fuels. However, since termites can't respond to demands to reduce greenhouse gas the politicians will probably ignore them.

I think I read that water vapor is a great greenhouse gas. (causes a lot of heat) Also, wetlands produce over 1/2 of the water vapor and water vapor causes more than 50% of the greenhouse problem, thus over 25% of global warming problem. Did I figure that right? Dry 1/2 the wetlands and that makes an impact. Think of decay and rotting wood, grass etc. Throw in snakes and bugs; I wonder.... could we get by with less wetlands?

I have heard there is volcanic activity under the polar caps and that is part of the polar ice melting. Also, the antartic is gaining ice. No one mentions that, so maybe I read wrong.

400,000 yrs ago CO2 levels were 10 or 20 times higher than today. Wonder what kind of cars they wre driving then?

Just food for thought and only intended for friendly discussion....

Cheers.... Coffeeman

Just to clarify things a bit - man has doubled the amount of CO2 in the air since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Other than that, all other aspects of the global warming issue are certainly debatable. The only troubling fact from my perspective is that there is a consensus of well respected scientists out there who believe man is at fault:eek: If it wouldn't be for that, I would not be giving it a second thought at this point. Any scientists out there wan t to chime in?

Examine closely the credentials of every "scientist" from whom you find a supporting statement. The PhD of the man who headed that UN sponsored committee, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, that recently issued a statement is not even in a science field, let alone anything to do with climate. I had posted it earlier in a climate change discussion, but it's something like industrial engineering and economics. So he's a PhD, but hardly a scientist.
