At Home In The Woods

Obed and I have the same special touch... I only wish those rocks were made of something valuable!!!

Around here we live on the southern edge of the great canadian shield. Could go down 10 feet or 0 but you are going to hit nice hard rock in most areas. It gets worse further north.

My current house is no problem but my daughters house just a 1/4 mile away and built last year was. They used a big excavator for 2-3 days ripping out big chunks of shale to get deep enough for the foundation. At least they didn't have to blast. The rock started just 2 feet below the surface. Footings were poured right on the rock.
The good news is the foundation is never going to sink.

I just put up a fence for her. What a fun job that was.:( I couldn't get holes to 4 feet except for next to the foundation. Most are 2-3 feet so I had to bell shape the holes & pour concrete to try to keep them from lifting with the frost

Obed -

Whatcha gonna do with all them rocks you're accumulating?? Rock wall? Cairns? Firepit?

Are you still on track for moving in before the 25th?

Frank
Frank,
I've been using them for rip-rap below the driveway culvert. It's nice having a use for them.

I'd guess we'll get in the house around Christmas. The H&A guy is the biggest scheduling problem. He won't come work on any of his stuff until all the other subs have done all the stuff that he needs so he doesn't have to come back twice. He wants all of them to come back multiple times because of him - plumber, sheetrock, painter, trim carpenter, and gas company.

I was wondering when the safety police would catch that....
I thought the same thing....

Kinda ironic huh?
My wife says that he definitely was not smoking. One of the pictures shows something white sticking out. However, according to my wife, it wasn't a cigarette. In addition, in the picture, it looks kind of long for a cigarette.

Cabinets!

The cabinets got delivered and installed. I like them because my wife likes them. We are very happy with the quality and the looks.

The countertop on this end will overhang 12" to make a bar. The bar will be the same height as the counters so we don't need tall bar stools. The right side has a door to give access to the blind corner.

The spice cabinets are pre-fabricated. My wife found them online and had the cabinet maker include them. Pull-out shelves over the refrigerator will help access to that hard-to-reach spot.

Obed,
the only question I have is:
have you measured the spot for the frig versus the size frig the misses may want?
With all the planning you have done, I am sure you have, just wanted to ask...

the reason I ask this--
A friend put in cabinets so beautiful that you didn't want to make any changes, had a perfect size frig..... then 5 years later, it died a horrible death.... then it cost him almost $1500 for a frig to fit that same hole.....

so when we built our house, we very careful about the frig and cabinets....
I only wish our's were as great as yours!!!!!
