Saturday I noticed that my trench running from the basement drain tile drain pipe had caved in and was blocking the drainage path. This situation has occurred before and seems to happen after it snows. So I got to dig some more. It wasn't worth it to try to maneauver the backhoe so I used a hand shovel.

After we get the final grading finished in the back yard I will install a drain pipe all the way to daylight but for now the temporary trench will have to suffice.

Obed, would you mind taking a couple of pictures of the "oil" space heaters for me? Do you recommend them? Thank you!

It is an oil filled electric space heater. I hope I didn't mislead you by calling it an "oil space heater". Yes, these things have worked great. They are safer than the electric space heaters that have the wire heating coils. The oil filled radiator is much more efficient than the other kind of electric space heaters. Two of these heaters would keep our camper warm until outdoor temps reached the low twenties. We kept the camper's gas furnace set at about 67 degrees so that it would only run when the outdoor temps were too cold for the two space heaters to keep up by themselves.

Also, is the trim carpenter still interested in the camper?

We think so but have not talked details. The trim carpenter is not be interested in potentially moving the camper off our property until springtime.

We lived in Charleston SC for 9 years and moved to NC in 1997. It's a beautiful place. I had a sailboat and got to really enjoy the Intra-Coastal Waterway and the sounds.

I've often wondered the tolls and toils of living in a camper for that long especially in a harsh winter climate. You and your wife must really and truly understand the meaning of "for better or for worse". My hat is off to you and yours Obed.

Last year when the temps didn't get above the twenties for two weeks was quite a challenge. Our camper's black sewage tank was frozen solid so we couldn't dump it. We used an old fashioned chamber pot that was my wife's grandmother's. We also used a hole in the ground for the serious business. To top it all, my wife was 8 months pregnant. For over 13 years in the camper, that situation only happened twice. But it was quite inconvenient while it was occurring.

1 more thing, Is it true that to live in the hills like you do, that 1 leg must be shorter than the other???

Yes, but only if you are a cow (2 legs are shorter).

Your wife must be a trooper and a saint to endure that situation. My wife would have gone and rented a hotel room.
I'll bet due to the harshness of this front that your extra glad to be in the home.

When I was a young man, I drove my grandmother to visit a home-bound older cousin. He asked me if I had a girlfriend. He then asked me if she was a city girl. He said, "If she's a city girl, do you know where she will live? She'll live in the mall!". That statement never left me.

My wife is a trooper. When I was younger and dating, I was never particularly attracted to girls who seemed helpless and needed their daddy to take care of everything for them. My future wife changed the oil in her car; some guys think that's really yuck for a woman to do and some of those guys pay dearly for that attitude after they get married. I personally could not handle having a "trophy wife".

My little girl has found a use for the cat door. When I go out into the garage she watches me through the cat door hole.

Being a daddy sure is great. I highly recommend it.
