Your wife let you bring that wheelbarrow into the new livingroom? Mine would have had a total fit.
I sometimes find it interesting what things catch people's attention. I would have never imagined that anyone would comment about the wheelbarrow.

Are you sure no critter made his home in the outside air intake hose ? Was there a knockout that had to be removed to install the outside air kit ?

Sometimes small things get missed.

It looks like a nice new wheelbarrow instead of my concrete and dirt encrusted rusty one.

I'm sure that is the indoor wheel barrow

and you switch the wood at the door from the out door wheel barrow to the indoor one:laughing:

I would have thought you knew us better by now! ;)

It could be that the fire place is intended to just slowly smolder , to conserve the wood, and the air intake ---if opened freely--would enable it to be a real fire.....I know our fireplace (the old fashioned kind) that has a little trap door to dispose of the ashes, will smoke badly if the little trap door is left opened...Do check the air intake..That might be the problem.....It looks like a nice well built insert, and you all are having a fine time...Sorry about the sickness Tony

Obed,
They have the manual for that stove online, it shows a lot
of detail about the outside air control, and it's ACC (automatic)
control. At first glance the outside air control looks like it
might be needed to be turned to the left for "open" and
to the right for "close". It states for operation, to open
outside air, and only close down when not in use.

Is that consistent with what you have tried?
here's their page on the ACC for anybody that
wants to follow, it does look a little complicated.

I can't see enough detail in your pics of the fire in the fireplace/woodstove. From what I can see it appears you are trying to burn wood from the ground on your hillside with little or no seasoning? And with twigs for kindling?
By seasoning I don't mean cajun or blackened, more like letting it dry out to reasonable chance of combustibility!

Have you ever tried any type of fire starter stick? I ask because it would seem that newspaper and twigs may not be enough for adequate combustion in that fireplace. If you have any drier wood on site then I suggest mixing it with the wetter wood, after getting your fire established.
Also see if you can establish a good draft up the chimney by holding the door open enough to get the fire going to where it won't tend to burn out right away. I've found this has worked to get to a quicker burn time and less waiting for things to get there on their own.
It may just be lack of familiarity with this stove that has given you the results so far. Sometimes it may have to do with not having an established bed of coals/ash in the firebox, which insulates the firebox and forces the heat back up to the wood instead of trying to heat the bare metal in the stove walls and floor.
Any of your wife's old shoes, or not recently used clothes will do in place of wood ashes- unless she catches you throwing them into the firebox!:D

We are not sure which air pathway is not working; it is possible that both pathways are not working. The chimney seems to draft well enough because we get a good fire as soon as we crack the glass doors.

We are going to have to contact the fireplace company and get them to look at it. This fireplace was quite expensive and is the central feature of our house. We certainly want it to work. Lets hope the company will provide good support.

I'm betting that you're not getting air from the outside for some reason.
