Here are some pictures of my little plow and tractor.
I know it's not adjusted correctly, I will remedy that but I just have to brag.
This is the first opportunity I've had to really try the plow after all the work I've put into it.
It's a long story, suffice to say that I burned a LOT of wire welding building back up parts that were worn down that should have never been worn down.
Another thing, this is a 14 inch plow and I have 25 PTO HP and I was worried to death that I wasn't going to be able to pull it properly.
I'm pulling it deeper than it's supposed to be pulled at more than 3 MPH and sometimes as much as 3.6 MPH. WOOHOO! As you can see, it's just starting to shed and I can tell a difference on each pull after I clean off the stuck on soil and it gets better every pass.
I ran out of dirt. :( I even plowed a couple of turnrows.

Allen,

Congratulations. I gotta tell you, that sure looks like fun!!!!!!!

Can you do a little math for me? How many acres per hour are you plowing?

Now what are you going to do with the land that you've just plowed?

Eddie

Oh yeah, I was so excited, I forgot to post some of the problems I have with the plow, or my tractor as it may be.
It's too short in the britches. On level ground, I can't pick the plow up high enough to roll it, I have to suck in the hydraulic top link to roll it and that causes another problem. If I tilt it too far up, the tip of the share will hit and break the tail light on the tractor. Don't ask me how I know.
Once I have a furrow cut, I can drop the front wheel into it and the plow will clear the ground so it isn't that big a deal but I wonder...
if I put my top link in the bottom hole, will it tilt the plow up enough when I lift it to clear the ground so I can roll it. I'll just have to try.
Also, I don't have draft control but I don't think I need it. It pulls fine at the correct depth and the turnrow was HARD!!! However my position control is aggravating. I was wondering if I could put a chain or something to limit the depth.

Man, them new shins and shares alll bright and shiny sure is neat!

Eddie, the land I plowed is my garden. I sold 7500 LBS of watermelons out of it last year and a whole bunch of black eyed peas.

How much did I plow.
Hmm

Say 3.2 mph for an average, not counting turning around and scraping the moldboards, multiplied by 28 inch cut...

I'd say I'm plowing, uh, hm, er...

What was the question?

I don't know what it is about steel and earth Allen, but it seems to be a common affliction. Looks great, and I won't ask about the taillight!

Thanks for posting, very interesting.

3.2 mi/hr * 5,280 ft/mi = 16,896 ft/h
16,896 ft/h * (28 in / 12 in/ft) = 39,424 sq ft/h
39,424 sq ft/hr / 43,681 sq ft/acre = ~0.903 acres/hr

Sounds correct?

43,560 square feet to an acre ....

I'm impressed! Your furrow looks nice and straight. That's not always as easy as it looks. The plow itself looks to be in very good shape. From the pictures it looks to be doing a great job. If I was to guess, I'd say it may be just a hair low on the tail end in a couple pictures, but at the angles of the photo's, that can be deceiving.

I've got a fast (and fairly accurate) formula for figuring acreage per hour. Speed X width (in inches) divided by 100 will give you a good quick number. So 3.2 MPH X 28" = 89.6, divide by 100 = .896 acres per hour.

Great looking pictures.....that looks like a ford plow....at least that is what I read on the plow. Is it hydraulic activated for the roll over action? I thought the hoses were running back to the plow.

You will have to go buy more ground just to find more places to plow. Now you understand Farmswithjunk when he said on a post a long time ago.....how he didn't buy a lot of implements because it means he would have to buy more ground just to use it....:D

You make me jealous....looking out my window right now, there is about four inches of new fallen snow and the ground is frozen solid. Oh well, spring is coming and I will get a chance to put the old plow in the ground.

Nice job on the straight rows!!! It took me a while to get mine that straight. The soil looks nice also for your tractor and plow setup. I dont know how well it would work in my soils. Very wet and rocky.
Oh yea I want that plow:D

Here a a couple of pictures of the field I plowed and rototilled this spring and planted sweet corn on. I ran a 2-bottom 12in. ferguson plow and a one pass with the 6ft KKII tiller. I thought it turned out nice. This is one of my best fields becuase it has very few rocks in it.
Did it all with my 43hp Montana with R4's.
