2007 BX2350
I have a BX2350 and love it. However, I need extra lights to do snow cleaning at night. I have the stock alternator, 14.4 amps (I think). I know you can order the bigger alternator for approximately 250 + dollars, and then cost of lights. I was told by my dealer to buy some cheap lights at ex. autozone, and it should be fine. The lights are 55w, 12v, which is approx.4.5 amps, or 9.1 if you calculate 110w. This is ok? Anyone have LEDs?

Any Thoughts from the experts?

I just added two small driving lights from AZ for back up lights. I put an all weather rubber coated toggle switch where the cruise control button would go. If you think about it, the DC Cig plug is rated for more than what the two 55 watt lights use. I haven't had any problems but I let the machine idle a little while with all lights off before I shut it down for the night just to make sure the battery gets charged a little.

Drawing on my automotive experience... if your tractor has a functioning ammeter or warning light, either should show a state of discharge if you extract more power than the alternator is capable of. (that's when the battery becomes the power source, a condition you don't want for any length of time.)

Otherwise, the alternator is providing enuff power to run the tractor and whatever accessories you may have energized - as well as maintain the battery's charge.

Thanks guys for the input. I think I can add the two lights with no issues if they are 55W. I do not plan on adding anymore items after that. I just see that it worth spending 300 bucks if I do not need to.

I am planning to add a work light at the top of the ROPS and plug it into the aux power thing. I found a source for a magnetic base light 55W.

I did some online search and came up with this alt for my BX2350 which looks to be a 40A. I bet the 14.4 is the regulator voltage. Will try to look sometime this weekend.

KUBOTA ALTERNATOR, (40A (PART#: 1G825-64010)

Just a thought, but has anyone looked into have their alternator rebuilt to produce more power? Tried changing the pulley size to make it run faster to produce more power and get a biger belt.

Just thinking out loud.

I added the Kubota dealer add on rear work light and it works great for any rear work. There are plug in points at the rear of the tractor for it that are hot with the ignition is on. The light comes with its own on/off switch. I chose this as my installation location-Personal preference. Lights up everything! It comes with enough wire to mount anywhere on the ROPS. No need for any alternator changes. cost is about $65.

Both Hitachi and Mitsubishi make these small alternators. They are found on many Japanese tractors, cars and trucks. Kubota nor any other tractor builds their own alternators.
They are almost always internally regulated in these applications so it is very simple to adapt one to any tractor. Typically for less than $50, you can do a single wire, or better yet 3 wire conversion. For a starting place try the Mitsubishi 14231, it is very common and should physically fit. You can find this size in 35 to 60 amp. KennyV.

Increasing ALT speed will not make it have more output other than at slower RPM's. Amp output is determined more by internal design, i.e. the gauge size of windings.
