Kubota B2650
Boot was tore off by bent guard around shaft on left side. I priced a new end because the boot was not sold separately. $115 so i said i will wait till i have to replace it.I made my own boot out of the rubber sleeve that slips over PTO shaft.Cut it to length and drilled a 1/2 hole in the end and slipped it on.I also put a small hose clamp on to keep it in place.Lets see how long it will last. 1476490800231.jpg

I tore that boot on my 3940 and was able to buy a new boot. Kubota is very proud of those boots. It was like $30 or something. After I put the new boot on, I bought some radiator hose and slid it over the boot to protect the new boot. I just bought a 2650 and it too is exposed to front end hits from thorns and branches every time you turn. I don't understand why Kubota doesn't protect this area better. I bought some 2" diameter hose that I am going to slit and put over the boots and secure it with hose clamps or wire ties to hopefully protect the boots better.

I noticed mine had popped out of place, luckily it wasn't torn or damaged at all. I dislike the curly wire spring deal they use to hold them in place, it was a bear to get pushed back where it needed to be.

SOmething dont sound right about that price? I just replaced one on my MX5100....And like the link above, it was ~$17-$18 or so.

How come some models have the "boots" and others don't? My former BX2660 had "boots" and my currrent B2620 doesn't. I'd rather be bootless if possible. KISS is better it seems to me.

Differnt types of steering systems, the BX, previous premium B's and all new B's use a hydrostatic steering with a hydrulic ram on the front axle(acts similar to a steering rack in a car but no mechanical connection)

The previous basic B's use a power assisted steering that still uses a steering box with drag links (think solid front axle vehicles with a steering box).
