Hello guys

I am posting this as a unpdate to a thread from last winter. I have a 2010 B2920 with only about 130 hours on it.

Last winter I had noticed an odd sound during times of plowing snow with the rear blade. It sounded a bit like sucking the last few drops of drink out of a cup with a straw. It seemed to be coming from the front end, and immediately stopped as soon as I let off of the forward pedal and stopped. It did not happen consistently at all, and sometimes not at all. In the previous thread there was no clear cut answer, and some seemed to think that this had happened to them from time to time. It was not the typical sound that I am used to with the HST.

I used the tractor all summer albeit not very often. About 1-2 times per week I would grade/smooth my 0.5 mile gravel driveway with the box blade, and did some weekly mowing. Rarely if ever did I hear this sound.

Today, I removed the MMM, and did some driveway smoothing. About 5 minutes in, the sound re-appeared. Then I noticed a louder noise resembling the old fashioned "arrrooooogah" car horn sound kind of like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAIRms5z7Zs

I stopped and the sound stopped. The louder "arrroooogahh" then reappeared 3-4 more times and then went away. This sound was pretty loud and rather alarming. I then went about the job, drug some gravel up a pretty steep part of the drive and the tractor performed great. All fluid levels ok, otherwise tractor running fine. Sound appeared in both M and H gear.

Any thoughts about what this may be? Thanks once again guys!!

A bearing spinning its race? Hard to believe a low hour Kubota could have that problem but you sure wanna identify it. I suppose theres no warranty remaining on a 2010. Are there any metal flakes or sparkles in the HST fluid?

Could the aroooogah sound be just gear backlash in the front PTO when its engaged with no MMM attached?

Thanks, any more input is greatly appreciated.

It only happens when moving. And stops when I stop. When idling, there is no sound.

The fluid looked ok to me.

Think I should have the dealer pick it up?

Oh and you are right, this only has started to happen again since I took the MMM off.

But... Is the Front PTO gearshift lever in the "engaged" -or- "disengaged" position? If engaged, then move yhe lever to the disengage position to stop the front PTO. I'm still going on the hope its the sound of PTO gear backlash, which could be a bearing going out, or could be nothing. Even though unrelated to the drive its feasible for some resonance condition to occur only when moving.

Unless its under warranty probably should take some time to try to produce the sound in a repeatable manner before getting the dealer involved. If they have to drive it around to hear the sound it could be a waste of transport effort.

The PTO is in the Disengaged position. If there danger of major damage if this sound continues to happen.

Wow, weird for sure. I have never heard a noise out of mine like that after almost 250 hours. Noises are really hard to troubleshoot. See if there is something you can do to make repeatable is my best advice.

It would concern me, a LOT. I would chase it down. Ya know, from an internet post with the word arooooogah its really guessing but i would guess a bearing going out.

Take a stick, a hard, dry stick like a broomstick. You will use it like a stethoscope. Put it to your ear, but pressing on the skullbone just ahead of your ear, and touch it to various components near the source of the sound, maybe you can narrow it down. There will be whirring but listen for grinding, or inconsistency, clucking, cracking, screeching,(aroooogah). Do be careful to avoid stuff thats moving it might give a good swift kick to the head. Be real careful if driving!

I've only heard that sound in movies, and it usually meant "Dive! Dive!".

Okay, not helpful. Move along, nothing to read here.

Just for grins, is your air filter clean? I am wondering if working the engine might cause the filter to load up. I have a 2620 and have not (thankfully) heard any weird sounds yet.
